    3. Devareaux Jarrett was more than a minister. He was initially hired, per his journal, as a teacher for Jacob Moon's children in Albemarle Co Va in the 1750's before Jacob up and moved to Bedford. He was appalled at the condition of the "church" in Albemarle co and the lack of attendance and participation. Little did he know that most of those running Albemarle at that point had moved to get away from "the church" and weren't about to create a good system as had existed in New Kent etc. A good number of them were "closet" quakers or other dissenters. they show up as vestrymen in earlier times and Quakers later, but came from Irish Quaker families.
