Hello List! I've been doing some more research on my husband's HOLT family, and I now have copies of the HOLT families from the 1870 Virginia Census, series M593, roll 1640, Charlotte Co. Roanoke Township. It seems that there were four people in the household of my husband's great-great grandfather Marcellus Holt: Marcellus HOLT age 28 and "farmer", Rufus HOLT age 26 and "farmer", Martha HOLT age 60 and "housekeeper", Nancy HOLT age 30 and "without occupation." Since I know that Marcellus married Charlotte "Emma" Elizabeth EAST, he must not have been married at the time of the 1870 census. Also, I know that Marcellus' mother was Sarah MASON HOLT so I'm not sure how this Martha age 60 is related. Can anyone confirm for me the relationships of those listed in Marcellus' household? Is Rufus a brother? Is Nancy a sister? Is Martha an aunt...spinster or by marriage? I was told by another Charlotte Co. list subscriber that Marcellus was from a large family, but I currently only know the names of two of his brothers...Burwell Nicholas HOLT and John Lee HOLT.
