    3. Your information was exactly what I needed, Annette, and thank you so much. I failed to mention in my message that the Cub Creek Church in the article by Katie Haensel on the Charlotte Co. GenWeb page and also the Cub Creek Church discussed in the book by Elizabeth Venable Gaines was Presbyterian, but perhaps everyone knew that anyway. The members of the first Cub Creek Presbyterian Congregation were Scotch- Irish and arrived in Charlotte Co. around 1738 after finding the best lands already occupied in Pennsylvania. They came down the Valley of Virginia as did most of the Scotch-Irish and Germans. I had read, however, that there was a Cub Creek Baptist Church, and evidently, that is the Cub Creek Church that John Weatherford served. I believe (but have no proof yet) that my ancestors were Scotch-Irish and most likely the immigrant ancestor was Presbyterian. With Presbyterian ministers in short supply I guess his descendants became Baptist as did many of the other Scotch-Irish. Thanks for the additional information about John Weatherford. Incidentally, there is a John Weatherford listed with members of his family in the minutes of the Meherrin Baptist Church, 1771-1844 although not as a minister. Elizabeth Wright Smith
