JoLee, The courthouse is a treasure chest. I usually camp so I don't know where to tell people to stay, but the courthouse has all records in original form and in a microfilmed index, which really helps. They microfilmed all of thier records and the film reader has a photocopy machine built in. Across the streed from the clerk's office is a marvelous library which has a room totally devoted to Charlotte Co and Va. genealogy. There is also a small Charlotte Co museum (not much there) in the back of that building. The Clerk's office is VERY small, although they are apparently about to move into larger, renovated, FIRE Proof quarters. This is supposed to take place soon and can't happen to quickly. I mean the Clerk's office is really, really, small. Three are a crowd! However, it is also one of the nicest, most cooperative courthouse going. Compared to halifax, it's heaven! Happy New Year! If you have done such research, I would appreciate your recommendations to pass along to others: where to stay, what records you find or don't find at the courthouse, genealogical resources found at local libraries or other resources. Please e-mail me privately. Thanks ever so much.
