My IRVINE family settled next door to Charlotte, in Campbell County, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their friends and relations ended up in Charlotte County early on; they certainly intermarried with Charlotte Co. families later. The Irvines were part of a large group of families who left northern Ireland on the "George and Anne" in 1729, and went first to Pennsylvania, settling I believe in what was then Lancaster County (subsequently subdivided, however, so I don't know what modern county they were in). John IRVINE and his wife Mary BOYD came from there to Virginia in the late 1730s and were among the first settlers of what is now Hat Creek, in Campbell County, founding Hat Creek Presbyterian Church. I would suppose that other Scots-Irish settlers probably came south from PA around the same time.
