    1. [VACHARLO-L] Mary Rakestraw; Rough Creek Church
    2. Thanks to Annette E. Wetzel <awetzel@juno.com> for bringing up one of my favorite topics, Rough Creek Church. My g-g-g-grandmother, Mary (White, Grigg) Rakestraw inherited the land upon which the church stands from her brother Samuel. In 1820, by power of attorney from his g-mother Mary, Samuel White Oliver, a budding young lawyer (just moved from Athens, GA to Conecuh Co., AL) and my g-grandfather, donated the land to the elders of the Republican Methodist Church. In 1822, the members voted to transfer to the Presbyterian Church, and the that Church is still active at Rough Creek. JoLee Spears has graciously posted the record of the transfer to the Charlotte County Genweb site, as she has the records of the Rough Creek Presbyterian Church, 1822-1855, which I transcribed. There is quite a bit of genealogical data there for those whose ancestors were members during those years.
