    3. Hi Ann Glad to see you pursuing the Scot connection with our Wilsons. As you know I have been trying also with no luck. Thanks for all the great info you have been sending me lately. The letter from Elizabeth Harris 3/23/99 was interesting when see talked about John Irvine being from Hat Creek Va. That is where my father was from. I am going to try to get a copy of the "living family chart" that Thomas Marshall made up. If I am successful and you would like to have a copy I will make you one. I found a document that stated the Harveys in Va. were from Warwickshire, England in the Snitterfield Parish. I joined a website mailing list that I found for Warwick- shire and am trying to find the Harveys there. It looks like the only Scot connection is going to be through the Wilsons. Keep trying to find that elusive thread as will I. My IRVINE family settled next door to Charlotte, in Campbell County, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their friends and relations ended up in Charlotte County early on; they certainly intermarried with Charlotte Co. families later. The Irvines were part of a large group of families who left northern Ireland on the "George and Anne" in 1729, and went first to Pennsylvania, settling I believe in what was then Lancaster County (subsequently subdivided, however, so I don't know what modern county they were in). John IRVINE and his wife Mary BOYD came from there to Virginia in the late 1730s and were among the first settlers of what is now Hat Creek, in Campbell County, founding Hat Creek Presbyterian Church. I would suppose that other Scots-Irish settlers probably came south from PA around the same time. Can anyone give me a source for information on their leaders, where in PA they came from, where they settled, the churches they founded? This is new to me, but my WILSONs carried the tradition they were "Scotch-Irish." Can anyone help here? ann in CA

    3. Hi cousins, I am looking for any info on Lewis JACKSON, son of Ralph JACKSON, of chesterfield Co Va. Lewis JACKSON m. Frances Richardson in 1764 in Cumberland Co and settled in charlotte Co. He is on the 1782 census there with a family of 12. I have the names of 7 children, found in the listings of Guardians at the time of his death in 1795. (Inventory in WB 2 p 70) but no will to name children. Have not found estate settlement, or the names of children who had reached majority before 1795, or which there should be quite a few, given the 1764 marriage. I have my line down, and that of one of the other children. I am looking for any info that would fill out Lewis' life and that of his wife Frances Richardson. Happy to share info. 3. "SUNLIGHT ON THE SOUTHSIDE" transcribed by Thomas Walter Duda, Part 1 No copyright notice wa printed in the published text. Contents of Files sun001.txt - (Part 1) Background history, explantion of tithes, etc. <ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/lunenbur/taxlists/sun001.txt> Page #8: THE TITHES The list of tithes of Lunenburg County for the earlier years are almost a unique inheritance, as such records in many of the counties have not survived. Lists for 1748, 1749, 1750, 1751, 1752, 1764, 1769, 1772, 1773, 1774, 1775, 1776 and 1783 are embraced herein. Lunenburg County originally embraced all of the territory from Brunswick County westward to the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains and from the North Carolina line, northward to the divide beween the water of the James and Roanoke rivers. The first loss of territory from the original area, occurred in February, 1752, when Halifax County was created. It is therefore the fact that the lists of tithes for 1748, 1749, 1750 and 1751, embraced the tax paying population of that great section, which now constitutes the following counties: Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Halifa, Charlotte, Pittsylavania, Henry, Patrick, Franklin, practically all of Bedford, most of Campbell and a considerable part of Appomattox. It is a fortunate circumstance that all lists for the early years, 1748,1749 and 1750 are available. They present the earliest complete record, or census, known of the taxable residents of teh far-flund domain of the ancient county, embracing as it diden then, what is now the whole or the greater part of ten counties. ............. ...... .....

I've found many of my Prince Edward County KNOWN ancestors in the deeds of Amelia c. 1740-1750. My known lines who later are in Prince Edward: Wil(l)son, Watson, Hudson, Weaver (all the w's!). 3. Hi Patte Which Thomas Harvey do you have marrying Martha Frances Spencer in 1835. I have William "Butterwood" Harvey m. susan E. Spencer, d/o of Claude Spencer in 1832 Charlotte Co. and a Sion Spencer of Charlotte Co who married Mary Harrison (d/o Benjamin Harrison and Lockey Priscilla Cary) in Cumberland Co in 1769. Have a hunch all of these Spencers are more than likely connected. I feel like I'm playing connect the dots.
