    1. [VACHARLO-L] Caldwells from Charlotte
    2. Ann Horne
    3. The county history tells of the founding of the Caldwell Settlement in Charlotte c. 1740. The group was Scots-Irish from Pennsylvania seeking religious freedom as Presbyterians. They did not buy land, so their departure is not easily found. Is anyone doing research on the Caldwell Settlement? Or the Caldwells of Charlotte? Help? Ann in CA

    1. [VACHARLO-L] Looking for John J. Eggleston
    2. I am looking for the parents, grandparents, etc. of John J. Eggleston born 1826 in Charlotte Co., VA, moved to Kanawha Co. WVA sometime before 1856. His father was Thos (Thomas ?) D. Eggleston. I believe they are related to Alfred Oliver Eggleston (1794-1852) since I have an Alfred O. Eggleston later in my family tree (b. 1905).

    3. In "Charlotte County, Rich Indeed," (p. 374) written in 1979, the Thomas W. Harrisons own the original home of Nathaniel Wilson. It is described as being ".3 mile south of State route 638, approximately .1 mile northwest of the intersection fo State route 691." I am going to Charlotte County in May to FIND THAT HOUSE! Does anyone on the list have a county directory for 1997-8? Do the Harrisons still live there? Does anyone know them? I want to see that house if possible. I need to contact them before I go. Please help, someone. Ann in California

    1. [VACHARLO-L] John Wilson family (1750-1800)
    2. Ann Horne
    3. >From 1768 when he bought his first property from Thomas Harvey, John Wilson and his wife Mary lived in Charlotte County. John died in 1779 (inv. and app.). Mary gave her consent for daughter Ann to marry Thomas Harvey in 1792 in Campbell County. From the 1782-1800 tax rolls I put together the male Wilson children. Besides my ancestor Joseph Wilson (b. 1758-d. 1815 Pr. Edw. m. Elizabeth Hudson)--the men are: John Wilson (Jr.), Robert, and Daniel Wilson. (That is the order in which they appear on the tax rolls, and may be in order of their arriving of age. Does anyone have ANY information on this family? Ann in CA

    3. Hi Ann When you get to Richmond and to the state library look for "Marriages of Campbell County, Virginia 1782-1810" page 45. To wit: "Harvey, Thomas, Jr. of Charlotte County and Ann Wilson, bond 25 April 1792. Consent also by Mary Wilson, mother of the bride. Married by William Mahon." Talk to you later! 1. [VACHARLO-L] Yes, thanks
    2. Ann Horne
    3. Thanks, Karen. I'm not on the Harvey list, so I'd appreciate that. When I get to Campbell County in May, I'm going to get a copy of the marriage bond of Miss Wilson to Thomas Harvey. My information from Paul Harvey was that her name was Anne. Bill Harvey has another given name for her, Alice. That conflict ought to be solvable through the proper documentation. Because (thank God) there were no other Wilsons in Charlotte County in the time period of John and Mary (ugh!) Wilson (1768-1779 at least) there is little doubt in my mind that they are the parents of Thomas Harvey's second wife. John's estate (no will) was inventoried and appraised in 1779. Yesterday I found a record of a John Wilson (DAR lineage books) who was in the Revolution, 1776-1777, killed at the battle of Eutaw Springs. His son John Jr. got over 2000 acres of land in Kentucky (I know there was a John Jr., as he is in the 1782 tax rolls of Charlotte). I have asked if there is a record in Charlotte that might illuminate "my" John Wilson Sr. as a possible officer in the Continental line. I do know John's son Joseph Wilson's father-in-law, William Hudson, served as an officer--so the older men did serve in the military--they would be the same age, I figure. Thanks for the boost.
