    1. [VACHARLO-L] Updated Web Page
    2. Paul Shipp
    3. Dear Everyone! I recently updated my web page. It now includes all family history data from my database. Included on the records are my notes/sources (which are a little bit sloppy, sorry). I have a lot of information from various cemeteries in Charlotte County in the database. If you want to see if we have any relationship please go to: http://www.networksplus.net/pbandj/Paul/Geneaolgy/ancestry.htm Also, if you are interested in comparing PAF 4.0, which is available for free download, and Family Origins 7.0 and their ability to create web pages you can compare on my sight. I created a "mirror" portion of my database with PAF. . . It is clearly marked! Tell me what you think... I am particularly intersted in how each database hides info on Living people! I personally like PAF better on this point. Sincerely Paul Shipp

    1. Re: [VACHARLO-L] Josiah's land purchase from William Fears
    2. karen wood
    3. Gordie, Thank you. It does make sense. I THINK the Elizabeth Jackson referred to in the will of Mr. Fears was most likely Elizabeth Pamplin/Pamplett (seen it both ways.) Her father is William Pamplin, but I have no name for her mother. To the best of my knowledge, she is the mother of Josiah Jackson and wife of Hezekiah Jackson. If her mother was a Fears, then she would be the granddaughter of James Fears. It would be logical for Josiah to be buying land from a close relative, whether that was a cousin or uncle, I'm not sure. Hezekiah was married to Elizabeth in 11 Nov 1761 in Prince Edward Co VA and died before 1777 in Charlotte Co VA. If Elizabeth had been left land or inherited it through deaths of others, Josiah may have been making a purchase of part of his mother's legacy. Elizabeth apparently lived until after 1810, but I have no death date for her. This is not my direct line. Joseph, (father of Hezekiah- father of Josiah m. elizabeth Madison) is the brother of my Ralph Jackson m. Obedience __ (Probably Lewis). Thanks for correction. Will make change. If you know of a Fears/Pamplin or Pamplett marriage, let me know and I'll add it to the tree. 1. [VACHARLO-L] Samuel Price Clark
    2. Samuel Price Clark was born in Charlotte County, Va. 3-5-1801. He married Elizabeth Wilmoth Hall, daughter of John Robins Hall and Sally Hurt about 11-15-1826 in Halifax County, Va. He later migrated to Carroll Co., Tn and died 3-5-1880 in Gibson County, Tn. I am attempting to locate the parents of Samuel. With his middle name being Price, I believe that it is possible that his mother's maiden name was Price. I note that there was a William Price in Charlotte County in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Does anyone recognize the family of Samuel Clark, or does anyone know of a marriage between a Price and Clark slightly before or after 1800 in Charlotte County? Any information would be appreciated. 3. During a visit to Houston's Clayton Gen. Library yesterday, I read a microfiche record from Charlotte Co VA Deed Book No 3 (1771-1777) regarding the will of David LOGAN. The quality of the fiche was so poor that I was not able to read much, but one name intrigued me, that of Richard BERRY. Does anyone know anything of his family? Specifically, I am trying to find out if he may have been related to Letty JAMES. In the will of Bartlett JAMES (c1770VA-1845TN, ma. Sally ROLINGS/RAWLINS), he refers to his children--Alexander JAMES, Daniel JAMES (my 4G grandfather), Bartlett JAMES Jr., and Letty Berry(BERRY?). We have been unable to determine whether "Letty Berry" was her maiden name or her married name. Bartlett and Sally lived in Charlotte Co, VA at the time of the court record naming Richard BERRY. I just wonder.... Please write if you have any ideas! Best regards, Sue JAMES Lloyd The Woodlands, TX

    3. >From John and Sue Lloyd: Does anyone have a book of Charlotte Co Deeds for 1771-1777? If so, I would be eternally grateful for the following look-ups." "Paul Carrington of Cornwall Parish in Charlotte to Thomas James of same, mess. tract, 162 ac on n. side of Staunton River part of larger tract by patent 20 Jun 1772, no wit." [Not clear whether this is an abstract, or the "complete" entry.]" Don't have the book but I can confirm this particular patent was later sold to John Beazley in 1774. Here are the particulars that I have. If you need the specific deed reference of this sale, I can get it but I am pretty sure it came from Charlotte County Deed Book 3. Here are the particulars: "John Beazley resident of the Parish of Cornwall in Charlotte County purchased a tract of land from Thomas James, a resident of same parish and county for eighty pounds current money of Virginia on August 1, 1774. The land was located on the northside of the Staunton River containing one h undred sixty two acres. Beginning at a red oak south fifty six degrees west forty five poles to a red oak, thence north sixteen degrees west forty six poles to a red oak, thence north 380 degrees 204 poles to a white oak, then south sixty five degrees east 102 poles to Pointers thence south eighty one degrees west 164 poles to the first station which said tract, piece or parcel of land is part of a larger tract, granted to Paul Carrington by Setters Patent bearing date June 20, 1772 by Paul Carrington conveyed to Thomas James on July 1, 1773." Hope this helps. I just received the digest and was quite surprised about the Elizabeth Jackson discussion. I have not really had an opportunity to research the daughters of James Fears as I am trying to get my Charlotte County connection to this family. Doubt that I can add anything to it right now. Need to study them as well. Wow!! This is great. Never really thought my response would start such a discussion. A good lesson learned this week. Everyone have a great 4th and stay safe. 3. HI Ward, I was hoping Fears was somehow related to Elizabeth Pamplett (Pamplin) wife of Hezekiah Jackson. Her father's name is William, but I don't have a mother's name. Since Hezekiah is father of Josiah Jackson (unless I'm wrong). and Josiah Jackson purchased 106 acres of land from William Fears in 1799 (Prince Edward County Deed Book 8 page 223 and 224). Elizabeth Jackson is listed as granddaughter to James Fears of St. Patrick Parrish in his will written in 1797 proved 1804 (Prince Edward County Will Book 3 page circa 356 or so, then perhaps the Elizabeth Jackson listed as grandaughter of James Fears would be Elizabeth Pamplin/Pamplet, wife of Hezekiah. Hezekiah is listed as b. abt 1736 d. before 1777 charlotte Co VA. He and Elizabeth Pamplin m. 11 Nov 1761 Prince Edward Co VA. The only info I have on her is that she is b. abt 1736? and died after 1810 . I have three children listed for them (but would guess there are more). I have Josiah m. Elizabeth Madison,d/o of Henry Jr., and Martha and Patrick Jackson. Sources for info include two private individuals and the VA Genealogist article Vol 30, 31, 32 (Jackson's of Lower Virginia/Brandenburger). I havenot verified this line with primary sources as it's not a direct line. Hezekiah is son of Joseph and there fore a cousin to me (1 C 7R) through Joseph's brother Ralph II. Josiah ends up a second cousin (according to the power of a computer. never could figure out these things). IF William Pamplin/Pamplet's wife was a daughter of James Fears, it would make sense for her to be the Elizabeth jackson mentioned, and it would make sense that her son, Josiah (m.Elizabeth Madison) was buying land from a Fears. Then again, I could be 100% wrong. Wouldn't be the first time I went barking up wrong tree! I'm still trying to find if the wife of Ralph II named Obedience was really a Lewis, hence my Lewis jackson who died in 1795 Charlotte Co, husband of Frances Richardson. Still trying to find all of Lewis' kids. Know for sure there was Mary m. Elijah CLARK (another family name), Jewis m. William GEORGE (need his parentage, as George is family name), Joel, Nancy, Lewis, Frances m. George JENNINGS (another family name), Phebe m. Branch Anderson, Ralph T. m. Polly HARVEY in 1804 (GGGGgrandparents), Obedience m. Lemuel VAWTER (her first cousin). There is also a Francis Jackson m. Elizabeth Rice in 1792. Mary and Jewis proved by marriage bonds, Joel, Nancy, Lewis(m. Elizabeth Harvey Hines, widow of Henry Hines), Frances, Phebe, Ralph T. and Obedience named as Orphans in Charlotte co order books. Francis is named as admistrator of Lewis' estate in 1795. sice all other Francis' of close relation were dec'd, I think he is oldest son. Can document all but Francis. Think there are three missing children who are older. Anyway, so much for my idea on who Elizabeth Jackson, granddaughter of James Fears might be. 3. Gordie, Thanks for info. I know that Obadiah Claybrook was married to Sarah Richardson. He also witnessed the will of Mary Curd Richardson and served as an adminstrator of m Lewis Jackson's estate. The Elizabeth Jackson may be wife of Josiah. He married Elizabeth Madison, but I don't know if that's the right Elizabeth or not, as I don't remember a Fears in that Madison formula, so she may be a different Elizabeth Jackson. Josiah Jackson, son of Hezekiah Jackson of Charlotte Co VA, m. Elizabeth Madison, d/o of Henry Madison and Martha White, abt 1 Apr 1790. (This is Henry Madison Jr). Hezekiah Jackson m. Elizabeth Pamplin (Pamplett?) in Prince Edward Co abt 11 Nov 1761. (that might be the Elizabeth you mentioned as I don't know her parents). Hezekiah is son of Joseph Jackson and Martha _________. Joseph is son of Ralph and Leah Williams Jackson. Ralph died 1708/9 in Henrico. This Ralph is the grandfather fo my Lewis Jackson, d. 1795 in Charlotte Co VA (married Frances Jackson, sister to Sarah Richardson). Full circle <G>. To make matters more interesting, another Sister, Ann Richardson married Capt John Harvey of Cub Creek /Butterwood Creek in Charlotte Co (they married in Cumberland, as did Lewis and Frances and Sarah and Obadiah). Another sister, Agnes Richardson, married Lemuel Vaughter (Vawter). I am directly descended from both Ann Richardson Harvey and Frances Richardson Jackson. Agnes's daughter, Mary VAwter m. Ann's son Thomas BW Harvey, as his second wife. I descend from Thomas BW Harvey's first wife, Barbara Walton. Thomas B.W.'s brother married Barbara Walton's sister. I have a famly wreath and not a tree <G>. Thank you for you info. I must have missed Anne's message regarding Garnett's but I don't have any of them hanging out here. Seems most of my families tended to want to marry each other. OVer and over again! 1. [VACHARLO-L] Re: Char Co DEEDS BOOK 1771-1777
    2. John and Sue Lloyd
    3. Does anyone have a book of Charlotte Co Deeds for 1771-1777? If so, I would be eternally grateful for the following look-ups. I believe these are page numbers from Index of Charlotte Co VA Deads 1771-1777: JAMES, Hugh 13, 39 JAMES, Thomas 18, 34, 51 JAMES, David 34 And another, which may be from same source, "p. 13 DB3-22B - 1 Jul 1773 Paul Carrington of Cornwall Parish in Charlotte to Thomas James of same, mess. tract, 162 ac on n. side of Staunton River part of larger tract by patent 20 Jun 1772, no wit." [Not clear whether this is an abstract, or the "complete" entry.] JAMES 8, 25, 53, 75 [suspect these are "Wit.", etc., so best leave till last] I realize I am asking for quite a bit of some kind soul's time and effort, because I need the text for each entry. I would love to do something for you in return. Could I bake cookies or cake for you? Would you like something from Texas? Truly, I would love to do something to repay your kindness! Just name it. (I plan to visit the Clayton Library in Houston later this week. Is there something I might do for you there?) Best regards, Sue JAMES Lloyd The Woodlands, TX

    1. [VACHARLO-L] Josiah & Elizabeth Jackson
    2. Gordie's note on Josiah and Elizabeth Jackson was of interest. Josiah Jackson m. Elizabeth Madison Apr 1, 1790 in Charlotte Co. Elizabeth's g-parents were Henry Madison Sr (brother of Ambrose, g-father of the President) and his wife (probably) Elizabeth Coleman; maternal g-parents John White and (I believe) his 1st wife Katherine (-?-). Thus the Elizabeth Jackson whose g-father was James Fears was not the wife of Josiah Jackson of Charlotte Co. Another Elizabeth Jackson died in Charlotte County well before Josiah's wife (1850) but after discovering it was not his wife I no longer have the data. Should I find it or recall, I'll post later. Meanwhile, perhaps Karen knows whom I am talking about. I am researching the descendants of John White, d. 1782 Charlotte County and would be glad to hear from any desc'ts of Josiah and Elizabeth (Madison) Jackson.
