    1. Virginia Beach Genealogical Society
    2. Carolyn Bruce
    3. I hold the Publicity Chair for the Virginia Beach Genealogical Society, and am having difficulty getting announcements about our society activities in the conventional media. With your permission, I would like to send you announcements of our meetings, etc. All our regularly scheduled membership meetings are FREE of charge and open to the public. We have authoritative and/or entertaining speakers at our monthly general meetings, and we have several smaller "Special Interest Groups" or "SIGs" offering classes and/or discussion forums to disseminate information and "tricks of the trade". We have been an organized society since 1982 and meet on the second Thursday of each month between September and May at the Virginia Beach Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd., starting at 7:00 pm and ending no later than 9:00 pm. We also have a reservations-required dinner meeting each June, but this meeting is not free. Each reservation, whether for one or more, must be accompanied by a check to pay for the dinner(s). Our SIGs meet as follows, except during the months of June, July, and August: Computer SIG (COMSIG) meets regularly at 7:00 pm. on the Wednesday immediately preceding the second Thursday of each month in a meeting room of the VB Central Library. The group offers hardware, software, Internet, and techniques information to those who work on, store, and reproduce their research with computers. The HOW-TO SIG ( HoTSIG) meets monthly to instruct and advise those who are interested in learning more about getting started or solving specific problems in genealogy. Dates and times vary but are posted ahead of time on the VBGS website: www.rootsweb.com/~vavbgs The Lower Princess Anne County Genealogy Study Group is for those who are researching the early families in present day Virginia Beach. Each month the group studies and shares information about a different family of Old Princess Anne County. Meetings are held at the Pungo-Blackwater Public Library located in Creeds, usually starting at 10:00 am on the first Saturday of each month. Our Writers Interest Group (WIG) meets monthly at 7:00 pm on the third Thursday (except June, July, and August) at a VB Central Library meeting room. This is specifically for those researchers who are interested in publishing their work at some point, whether in book form, newsletter submissions, or for personal use. We also cooperate with the VB Public Library in conducting tours of the VB Central Library's materials that genealogists find useful, including books, microfilms, and periodicals. The Tours will be conducted in February, March, May, September, October, and November only. Tours last about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours to complete, and begin Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 7:30 pm, and Wednesday February 15, 2006. 10:30 am. To reserve a place on the tour, interested persons please call the VB Central Library: (757) 437-6450. To become a member, please see our website, where dues amounts and mailing address are posted. Members receive benefits including an award-winning quarterly newsletter, and discounts on any conferences or seminars produced by the society. If you would like monthly notice of our meetings and who our speakers are to be, please send me an email. My edress is: cdhbruce@cox.net For any other information about VBGS, please see our website at www.rootsweb.com/~vavbgs And if you can, pay us a visit. Everyone is welcome. LIST ADMINISTRATOR... if you do not wish for me to send future notices to your list, please email me at: cdhbruce@cox.net Otherwise, I shall send another notice in the fall. Thank you. 1. Chesapeake Cemeteries
    2. Scott Byrd
    3. Hello All, I am new to the list and am hoping some already here can help me. I have embarked on a project to catalogue and photograph all of the cemeteries of Chesapeake. Unfortunately, I cannot find a list of cemeteries, so I am stuck driving around searching. So far I have photographed New Willow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mennonite Church Cemetery, Gibson Family Cemetery, and three that I have no names for. The first two are located on private property along Ballahack Road on the way to the Naval Activity. The other is in the Portlock area on the corner were Franklin meets Bainbridge. Anyone who can help me on these names would be a godsend. I am also looking for names and locations of other cemeteries to catalogue during my free time. I am sure there are a lot of church cemeteries out there, so please let me know where they are and I will try to get to them all. This data is being shared with the USGENWEB Tombstone project for all to view. Thanks in advance. Scott Byrd

    1. PLEASE HELP
    2. I am new to this list and needs some real help. Until yesterday I was wondering if my great grandmother was an alien from Mars or some unknown galaxy. Seriously I knew she was but from documentation I have received she was born in four different states and in three decades. New found information had my great grandmother ELLEN F. FORD being born May 1856 in Virginia. Now that I know she didn't just pop into this world or come on a flying saucer I am looking for information on her family, parents, and siblings. If you have Ford info please check for her. Also I need a CENSUS look up for 1860 and 1870. She married in April 1872 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you look for her in census records you have access to please let me know where you looked so I will know at least where she is not at in Virginia. Thanks you for you help. Patricia
