Hi List, I am researching the line of John Stewart born ca 1724-1730, died Surry Co NC March 1807, married Rachel. John Stewart had land since 1782 in Henry Co VA on Naked Creek/Stewarts Creek in Lamsburg VA., this area was from 1777-1790 Henry Co VA., 1791-1811, Patrick Co Va., 1811-1842 Carroll Co Va. Neighbors of John Stewart/Stuart, include: Cornelius Keith Sr. and wife Juda Thompson, Cornelius Keith JR. and wife Mary Laffoon, Captain Daniel Carlin and wife Elizabeth Webb Carlin, John Cox and wife Mary, David Payne and wife Molly, Abraham Hawks and wife Nancy Stewart Hawks, the DEAN family, William Burrus and other Burrus families. Joseph Stuart born ca 1772 in VA. married Margaret Dean, supposed sister of Howell Harrison Dean and Henry Harrison Dean by 1795. Joseph's sons and daughters married into the Rotten, Payne, Hawks, Francis families of that area. Joel Stuart, son of Joseph and Margaret Stuart married Millia Rotten/Roddan in Grayson Co Va. April 1821, sons and dau! ghters of this couple married into the Patton, Scott, Daughtery, Payne, Hawks families. The Stewarts also had land in Surry Co NC, right over the state line from Carroll Co., We lived on Stewarts Creek,, Little Fishers River, and Naked Creek. Our neighbors included: Burrus (William and Thomas), Holder(Lewis, Solomon, Joseph and John), Keith (Cornelius, George and Duncan), Hawks( John and William), Rayburn(Thomas, Sylvanius), Tucker( James, Garner, William), Talliaferro(Charles and DR John), Hardin(William), Laffoon(William and Dennis), Norman(Thomas, Eli, Henry and William), Bledsoe(John, Abraham and Moses). Others that seemed to live nearby in either Carroll or Surry: William Perkins, Lewis Hail, Palmer Scritchfield, John Dockery. Our Stuarts were in Surry Co since 1774, Nathaniel Steward, oldest son of John and Rachel was found on the 1774 Surry Co Nc tax list for "Humphries District", this area was almost on the VA. border.
