    2. Galax Gazette Obits--November 02, 2001 FLORA COCKERHAM AMBURN Flora Cockerham Amburn, 85, of Galax died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. She was born in Ohio on Oct. 28, 1916 to Troy C. and Betty Jane Goodson Cockerham. Survivors include her husband: Elwood Amburn of Galax; a daughter, Betty A. Pilson of Stuart; a sister, Pearl Whisenhunt of Winston-Salem, N.C., a brother, Junior Cockerham of Hillsville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Chapel with burial in the Blue Ridge Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmie Marion will officiate.Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. JEROME DANIEL GOINS Jerome Daniel Goins, 49, of Maryland, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 at Washington, D.C. Survivors include a son, Jerome Daniel Goins, Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md.; his mother, Pinkie Goins of Galax; a sister, Juanita Brown of Galax; five brothers, Robert Robinson of Chillicothe, Ohio, Bobby Goins of Maryland and Andy Goins, Billy Goins and David Proctor, all of Galax; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Thursday at noon in the Mount Olivet Holiness Church at Baywood with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.Military rites were performed by the Grayson VFW Post #7726. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. KERMIT HAYNES Kermit Haynes, 75, of Fancy Gap, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Betty Martin Haynes, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Judy Haynes of Greenville, S.C., and Donny and Rebecca Haynes of Fancy Gap; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Gladesboro Cemetery. The Rev. Duane Steele officiated. EDISON EARL SPENCER Edison Earl Spencer, 66, of Honey Brook, Penn., and formerly of Rugby, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 in Honey Brook. He was born Jan. 7, 1935 to Canie Allen and Virgie Farmer Spencer. Survivors include his wife, Lois Anderson Spencer of the home; one son, Brian Spencer of Reading, Penn.; his mother, Virgie Spencer of Rugby; a sister, Glenna Halsey of Troutdale; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Kay Spencer of Rugby; and one granddaughter. A funeral will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m. in Corinth Baptist Church in Rugby with burial in Rockbridge Cemetery at Grant. The Rev. Rex Hall will officiate.Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence is in charge of arrangements.
