Hank Gala Gazette Obits--November 07, 2001 Brenda Sue Jarrells Hernandez, 59 Brenda Sue Jarrells Hernandez, 59, of Hillsville, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Burrell Nursing Center, Roanoke. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dirk and Violet Hinkley of Hillsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Alvin Ward of Kenton, Ohio, and Sue and Russell Lawson of El Paso, Texas; four brothers, Kenawha Jarrells of Hillsville and Steve Jarrells, Matthew Jarrells and Danny Jarrells, all of Pulaski; and five sisters, Betty Austin of Florida, Edith Alley of Elyria, Ohio, Maxine Collins of Hiwassee, Stella Dalton of Pulaski and Almeta Bushong of Ohio. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home with burial in the Trial Cemetery, Pulaski Harbert Lawrence Sharp, 77 Harbert Lawrence Sharp, 77, of Woodlawn, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sharp. He was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Carroll County to Lawrence and Elizabeth Lineberry Sharp. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Glenda Sharp of Austinville; a sister and brother-in-law, Lourena and Boyd Lawson of Woodlawn; a grandson; a niece; and a nephew. A funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Christian Church with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Bobby Kirby will officiate.Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Patricia Ann Brady Blevins, 62 Patricia Ann Brady Blevins, 62, of Manassas, formerly of Whitetop at Atkins, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax. She was the widow of Aught Earl Blevins. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Veronica Blevins, Michael and Mary Blevins, all of Manassas and Jeffrey and Bernice Blevins of Wytheville; four sisters, Frances (Donnie) Blevins and Rebecca Shrader, both of Bluefield, Elizabeth Yates of Union, W.Va., and Brenda Wilson of Manassas Park; three brothers, Sam Brady Jr., of Romney, W.Va., Robert Brady of Abbs Valley and Earl Brady of Detroit, Mich.; and several grandchildren. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Helton Valley Baptist Church, Whitetop, with burial in the Walls Cemetery. The Rev. Eugene Blake Cornett, 87 Eugene Blake Cornett, 87, of Blountville, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Asbury Center at Baysmont, Kingsport, Tenn. He was born in Comers Rock, Dec. 13, 1913, a son of the late Forrest and Effie Sutherland Cornett. He operated the family farm until 1953, when he moved his wife and two daughters to Bristol. Blake was a security officer at Sperry and retired from Univac in 1978. He retained his membership in Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Comers Rock and was an active affiliate member of First United Methodist Church, Bristol. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loetta Sutherland Cornett; two daughters, Janet Cornett Lundy and her husband, Ted of Cookeville, Tenn., and Kathy Cornett Wagner and her husband Larry of Blountville, Tenn.; his brother and sister-in-law, J.P. and Lois Cornett of Abingdon; his sister, Hope Cornett Frazier and her husband James of Alexandria; grandsons, Ronald E. Rasnake of Bristol, Tenn., and the Rev. Edward L. Rasnake of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Cornett Causey and Irene Cornett Howell; and an infant brother, Dean Cornett. A funeral was held Monday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Comers Rock, with burial in the Comers Rock Cemetery. The Revs. David T. St. Clair and Bobby Lorton officiated. Pallbearers were John Delp, Joe Sutherland, Ralph Sutherland, Mark Sutherland, Linden Sutherland, and Randall Sutherland. Honorary pallbearers were Rann Vaulx, Paul Delp, Bert Sutherland, Grant Sutherland, Bill Greer, Jack Morris, Dr. David Morin, Dr. T.C. Greene, Dr. Alan Gorrell, Dr. Ben Cowan, the Rev. Bill Slagle and all special friends at First United Methodist Church. Nannie Osborne Cox, 88 Nannie Osborne Cox, 88, of Independence, a resident of Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at the center. She was the widow of Josh Cox. She was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Independence to John Guy and Sarah Haga Osborne. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jamie D. and Martha W. Cox of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol C. and Walter Vann of Hardy; two sisters, Virginia Finney of Independence and Faye Patterson of Ewardsville, Ill.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Sunday at Mountain View Baptist Church, Independence, with burial in the Mountain View Cemetery. The Rev. David Osborne officiated. Elizabeth Melton Robinson, 75 Elizabeth Melton Robinson, 75, of Galax, beloved wife, mother and grandmother entered into Heaven on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Mattie Lou Higgins. Surviving are her loving husband, Dean Edward Robinson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bill Meador of Roanoke and Darlene and Robert Weatherman of Galax; a daughter, Charlotte Melton of Ennice, N.C.; six grandchildren, Eddie, Gary, Adam and Joey Slayton of Galax, and Mary Ann Meador and Bill Meador Jr., of Roanoke. Also surviving are three sisters, three brothers and several nieces and nephews. In addition, four stepdaughters, Linda Caudell, Carol Ippolito, Sharon Knisely, Patricia Lowe and their families; and a stepson, Grayson Robinson and his family. A funeral was held at Mount Vale United Methodist Church Monday.
