GALAX, Va. — Sarah Katherine Smith Hackler, 83, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Norton, she was the daughter of Samuel Smith and Salatha Petrey Smith. Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Tucker and Barbara Hall of Pelham, N.C., Patricia Fielder of Lauderdale, Miss., Sandra Coomes of Galax and Dana Cockram of Meadows of Dan; one son, Warren Eugene Hackler of Galax; one sister, Ruby Darnell of Kingsport, Tenn., 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel in Galax.
