1. [VACARROL] Ruthie E. Horton book
2. July 20, 2001, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Ruthie E. Horton, former resident of Hillsville, Virginia, and author of A Courageous Woman, will be in the Carroll County Museum (the old Post Office building on Main Street) to autograph her book for those who have already purchased a copy, and should like it autographed. She will have available a few copies for purchase, $21.95, saving purchaser shipping cost. Ruthie is the daughter of Joseph V. Horton and Laura A. Quesenberry. Her memoirs cover 84 years from her childhood in Carroll County, Virginia, her teenage years assisting her sister Mae Horton Branscome run a boarding house in Caretta, West Virginia, her graduation from Woodlawn High School, her training as a nurse, her marriage and move to Grundy, Virginia, her difficult decision to move to Baltimore, Maryland, during the war years. In Baltimore, she managed a doctor’s office for many years, raised her daughter, and eventually became a successful real estate agent. Her book is available from Infinity Publishing, 519 Lancaster Ave., Haverford, PA19041-1413, by calling toll free 877-289-2665, or on the internet at www.buybooksontheweb.com. My apologies for using the list-serve to promote a book, but I thought some of the subscribers might be interested as the author (my mother) and her book have local roots in Carroll County. Jackie
