Her memoirs cover 84 years from her childhood in Carroll County, Virginia, her teenage years assisting her sister Mae Horton Branscome run a boarding house in Caretta, West Virginia, her graduation from Woodlawn High School, her training as a nurse, her marriage and move to Grundy, Virginia, her difficult decision to move to Baltimore, Maryland, during the war years.
