    2. GALAX GAZETTE Lona Malinda Davis, 97, of Dugspur, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Waddell Nursing Home, Galax. Survivors include four sons, Alva "Jerry" Davis of Dugspur, Dwight Davis of Columbus, Ohio, Harold Davis of Magadora, Ohio and Bryan Davis of Shinnston, W.Va.; two daughters, Georgia Smith of Charleston, S.C., and Brenda Bracken of Forest Hills, N.C.; one sister, Jessie Riffle of Wooster, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today, Monday, at 11 a.m. at Dalton Presbyterian Church, Dalton, Ohio, with burial in the Dalton Cemetery, Wayne County, Ohio. The family requests no flowers. ========== Albert Edward "Ed" King, 63, of Barren Springs, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in West Columbia, Texas. He was born in Carroll County to Joseph Delmont and Grace Akers King. Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Stephens of Austinville; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Leslie King of Mount Airy, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Mark and Danny Hogue, both of Richmond. A memorial service was held Sunday at the Reese Funeral Home in Austinville with the Rev. Donald King officiating. ========= Larry Gene Stone, 61, of Brimfield, Ohio, formerly of Carroll County, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home in Ohio. Survivors include his mother, Sadie Coulson; eight sisters, Sheila Shupe of Hillsville, Carolyn Coulson, D.J. Coulson, Gail Coulson and Nancy Coulson, all of Richmond, Nova Wagg of Galax, Lola Horning of Alexandria, and Mary Alford of Loudon, Tenn.; five brothers, Thomas Coulson of Christiansburg, Ottis Coulson of Max Meadows, Michael Coulson of Woodlawn and Dale Coulson and Danny Coulson, both of Hillsville; and a very special relative, Tammy Tetrick. A funeral was held Sunday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home with burial in the Round Knob Church Cemetery. ========= Charles Pierce "Bald Eagle" Stoneman Sr., 57, of Independence, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1943, in Carroll County to Joseph Pierce Stoneman and Anna McMillion Stoneman. Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Stoneman of Independence; a daughter, Rachel Stoneman of Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Mary Stoneman of Galax; a brother, Lloyd Stoneman of Galax; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. A funeral was held Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the McKenzie Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. The Revs. James Billings and Terry Vaughan officiated. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements ========= Maggie Elizabeth Shumate, 97, of Hillsville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Galax. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Vinson of Hillsville and Ruth Baldasarre of Lake Oswego, Ore.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Shumate of Hillsville; three sisters, Imogene Jennings of Ponce DeLeon, Fla., Grave Stoneman of Galax and Lillian Wilson of Radford; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Saturday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home with burial in the Dalton Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Stephenson officiated. =====
