Let me add my thanks for publication of the sad news of this passing. I remember her well from back in the '50's when I was a boy. Mildred Emily Webb was the first wife of Thomas Gardner and she died 18DEC1878. Flora's mother was Elizabeth Banks (1858-1938) and she was married 27MAY1880 in Carroll. Her parents were Isaac Banks and Lucinda Webb. Thomas, though a bit young to have served in the war, was a drummer boy. Perhaps you will recall the drum in the Carroll News that was located and purchased by the Historical Society so it could be returned to Carroll. Andrew Washington Gardner, father of Thomas, was another unfortunate victim of the Carroll Home Guard. (most likely the Combs brothers, Church and Berry). Her grandparents Andrew W. Gardner 1825-1864 (killed on his way back to the War from Home) & Mary E. Quesenberry 1826-1915, James Webb & Hannah Packgett. If you need more I have it on my website. http://welcome.to/shrader She lived in Hillsville next to the Carroll house. What I was told she had 16 brothers & sisters. She never married, but she was a second mother to many children. She would move in and help family in need when a new child was born. If you have anymore questions please ask. Her funeral is Saturday at 11am in Hillsville. Yours, Scott Shrader At 01:08 AM 7/6/01 -0400, you wrote: >Hi Scott, >I'm so sorry to hear of another Gardner passing.
