MARSHALL Peggy Ann Marshall, 59, of Galax, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Clarence E. Marshall. She was born in Galax, VA on Nov. 14, 1941, to the late Grover Cleveland and Ethel Virginia Isom. SUMNER Nellie York Sumner, age 78 years, 11 months and 28 days, passed away Monday evening, May 28, 2001, in the Waddell Nursing Home in Galax, VA. She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Dora Lee and Andy Choate, Galax, VA, Dorothy and Ralph Edwards, Ridgeway, VA, Brenda and Ferlin Dalton, Hillsville, VA, Barbara and Leslie Felts, Warner Robins, GA and Thelma Faye Wilson, Dobson, NC; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Teresa Sumner, Hillsville, VA, Charlie and Gladys Sumner, Fancy Gap, VA and Bobby and Doris Sumner, Fancy Gap, VA; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Sumner; daughter, Nancy Ellen Sumner; son, Kermit O. Smuner; son-in-law, Zina R. Wilson. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Dewey Felts and Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. The family received friends Tuesday evening, May 29 from 7-9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville. Burial was in the Indepedence Cemetery, Fancy Gap. ------------------------------------------------- NANCY C. TAYLOR Nancy Cooley Taylor died at her home on May 30, 2001, after a brief illness. Born in Pulaski Co., Virginia on June 12, 1918, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of E.J. and Elizabeth Cooley. She graduated from Pulaski High school in 1936. She completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Longwood College. She and her family moved to Charlottesville in 1939. She then went on to earn a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of Virginia in 1942. Following graduation she taught mathematics at Fairfax Hall School in Waynesboro, VA. Later she worked as Mathematician at the National Space Administration at Langley Field. Following World War II she went to Tokyo, Japan as a math instructor for allied servicemen. In 1946 she married then Major Walter M. Taylor of Boston, MA. She had two sons, Marc Parsell of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Roy Nathan of Ithica, New York. A long time teacher of the National Business College in Charlottesville she received numerous Teacher of the Year Awards. In addition to her ons Mrs. Taylor is survived by her three granddaughters. A memorial service will be held at the Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church on Rugby Road in Charlottesville on Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made in her name to The Hospice of the Piedmont, Suite 2000, Pantops Mountain Place, Charlottesville, VA 22911. ----------------------------------------------- CORA E. WARD Cora Ethel Ward, 90, of Galax, died May 31, 2001, at Blue Ridge Health & Rehab Center. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
