She was the widow of Jimmy D. Amburgey, Sr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fredrick Noel Amburgey. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Greg Williams of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy D. Amburgey Jr., and Sylvia of Galax; a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Hugh Pilkenton of Oregon; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Sue Taylor of Gravelick, James and Rose Taylor of Dante, Danny and Wanda Taylor of Eden, N.C., Raymond and Linda Taylor of Chilhowie and Toby and Carolyn Taylor of Dante; six grandchildren, Jimmy D. Amburgey III, Brandi Shane Amburgey, Amy Gail Williams, Leah Nicole Amburgey, Wayne Adam Amburgey, and Samantha Jo Amburgey; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Ellen Taylor of Kentucky and Shirley Taylor and Lou Taylor, both of Virginia. A graveside service was held Sunday at Monta Vista Cemetery with the Revs. Fred Jennings and David Slayton officiating. ----------------------------------------- McDaniel "Mack" Brannock, 64, of Galax, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was born Oct. 23, 1936, in Grayson County to Orville A. and Ada Richardson Brannock. Survivors include his wife, Judy G. Brannock of the home; a son, Chris Brannock of Galax; a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Edward McKenzie of Galax; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorsey and Mary Brannock of Heathsville and Elbert and Kathryn Brannock of Waynesboro. A graveside service was held Sunday at Snow Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James Cowley officiating. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------- Edward William Glesk, 77, of Elk Creek, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Charleroi, Pa. Survivors include three children, Harry Glesk of Elk Creek, Gayle Field of Orlando, Fla., and David Glesk of Philadelphia, Pa.; three stepchildren, Hank Oxendine of Lancaster, Pa., Donna Bacon of Michigan and Leona Dugan of Upland, Pa.; and seven grandchildren. At the request of Mr. Glesk, his body is being cremated. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements ------------------------------------------------------------ Delmar L. Horton Jr., 68, of Hillsville, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. Survivors include two sisters, Cloatine Henley of Hillsville and Marie Horton Worrell of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Webb-Skyview Cemetery with the Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Flowers will be appreciated; however, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 167 E. Main Street, Abingdon, Va. 24210. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------------- Ossie Osborne Halsey, 90, of Mocksville, N.C., formerly of Independence, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Autum Care Nursing Home, Mocksville, N.C. She was the widow of William Paul Halsey. She was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Mouth of Wilson to William and Rose Adams Osborne. Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Alice and the Rev. Brice Barton of Mocksville, N.C., and Vita Lee Barton of Galax; a foster sister and spouse, Kathryn and Riley Conner of Cloverdale; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Delp of Roanoke; three sisters-in-law, Dany Halsey of Danville, and Kate Grogg and Ruth Caslevera, both of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Sunday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Revs. Grady Byrd and Paul Boyer officiating. Burial was held in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with the Rev. Allen Harmon officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, Va. 24348. ---------------------------------------------------- Melvin Gray Parrish, 84, of Galax, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was born April 29, 1917, in Carroll County to William Jackson and Dora Frost Parrish. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene K. Parrish. Survivors include his wife, Betty P. Parrish of Galax; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Johnny Smythers of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Modeen Parrish of Morrilton, Ark.; two stepdaughters and a husband, Lou A. and Bill Brock and Kathy Peddy Marington, all of Houston, Texas; a stepson and wife, Tommy and Carolyn Peddy of Galax; three sisters, Eula Davis of Galax, Roma Williams of Chesapeake and Ruth Mills of Hendersonville, N.C.; two brothers, Clyde Parrish of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Kenneth Parrish of Daytona Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Chris Parrish, Johnny Smythers Jr., Mark Smythers and Stephanie S. Carr; four stepgrandchildren, Andrew Peddy, Laurel Brock, Colin Brock and Jaime Peddy; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church with burial in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. David Slayton officiated. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
