    2. MARY S. BRUCE Minister Mary Saunders Bruce, 59, of Pulaski, formerly of Carroll County,died Oct. 4, 2001, in Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She is survived by sisters Lucille Hill of Norfolk, Iola Phipps of Galax; brother, Frank R. Saunders of Texas. Funeral was Oct. 9 at Mt. Zion Holiness Church. The Rev. Raymond Brown, Jr. officiated. Burial was in Bethany Church Cemetery. VELVA W. COX Velva Winesett Cox, 92, of Galax, died Oct. 1, 2001, in Waddell Nursing Home. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Loree and Ed Large of Hillsville, Dorothy and L.D. Davis, Virginia and Odie Bowers and Betty Cox all of Galax, Sherry Harless of Cherry Valley, CA, Pat and Brad Hough of LaPine, OR; sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Sylvia Cox of Sweet Home, OR, Bill and Shelby Cox and Arthur and Faye Cox all of Galax, Jim and Joan Cox of Ennice, NC, Clarence Lee and Barbara Cox of West Jefferson, NC; sister, Betty Lou Payne of Mt. Airy, NC; brother, Franklin Pierce Winesett of San Andreas, CA; half brother, Franklin D. Winesett of Mt. Airy, NC; 33 grandchildren, over 65 great-grandchidlren. Funeral was Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. in Snow Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernie Smith and the Rev. Eddie Beck officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. CECIL J. DELP Cecil James Delp, 94, of Lenoir, NC, formerly of Galax, died Oct. 5, 2001, in Shaire Center Nursing Facility, Lenoir, NC. He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Delp of Galax; sisters, Carmele Hill of Providence, RI, Hazel Yates of Elk Creek, Lavie Langford of Corbin, KY; brother, Thomas Delp of Galax; two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral was Oct. 9 in Providence United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Gloria Rhudy. Burial was in the church cemetery. RUBY L. FARMER Ruby Lee Farmer, 82, of Fries, died Oct. 6, 2001, in Beverly Health Care/Blue Ridge. She is survived by her husband, David Carlie Farmer of Fries; daughters and son-in-law, Delena Catron of Fries, Martha and John Ray of Mountain City, TN; sister, Sadie Bentley of Pulaski; brother, Roy Davidson of Hillsville; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. A grave side service was held Oct. 8 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Bolen and the Rev. Gloria Rhudy officiated. JUANITA H. GOAD Juanita Harris Goad, 76, of Elkin, NC, formerly of Carroll County, died Oct. 1, 2001, in Hugh Chatham Hospital, Elkin, NC. She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Brenwald of Elkin, NC; two grandsons, three great-grandchildren. Funeral was Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. in Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Sizemore officiating. Burial was in the Branscome Cemetery. ANNA B. GORDON Anna Beach Gordon, 91, of Woodlawn, died Oct. 2, 2001, at Birdmont Manor. She is survived by sons, Raymond Lee Gordon Jr. of Mechanicsville and Capt. Robert E. Gordon, Retired U.S. Navy Chaplin of Independence; half sisters, Elizabeth Sledd and Pauline Williams both of Roanoke, Mildred Carroll of Salem; half brother, Corbin L. Beach of Roanoke; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Funeral was Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Tom Conley. Burial was in Monta Vista Cemetery. JOYCE H. HIATT Joyce Helene Hiatt, 67, of Galax, died Oct. 2, 2001, at her residence. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Roger D. Cockerham of Mt. Airy, NC, Suzi and James A. Lawson of Galax; son and daughter-in-law, John Richard (Ricky) Sankey and Christine Annas of Galax; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Oct. 3 at 8:30 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. James Fain officiating. JULINA D. HODGES Julina Frances Duncan Hodges, 88, of Galax, died Oct. 4, 2001, in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. She is survived by three daughters, Grace Mabe of Bel Air, MD, Imojean Manuel and husband Don of Galax, Barbara Farmer and husband Sidney of Woodlawn; brother, Warren Duncan of Morehead City, NC; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral was Oct. 8 in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bobbie Burcham. Burial was in Mt. Vale Cemetery. ETTA B. NESTER Etta Bond Nester, age 84, of Barren Springs, VA, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Garland Anderson and Ruth Anora Vass Bond and was a member of the Glenwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Chalmer Curn Nester of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Roy Crawford of Barren Springs, VA, Connie and James C. "J.C." Horton of Hillsville, VA, Bonnie and Martin Richardson of Concord, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Shirley Nester of Pulaski, VA, Marvin and Frances Nester of Barren Springs, VA; a sister, Josie Bond of Norfolk, VA; 12 grandchildrn and six great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wilson Newman and the Rev. Bill Edmonds officiating. Interment was in the Garland Anderson Bond Cemetery. The body was taken to the church one hour before service time. The family recie friends at the Barnett Funeral Home From 6-8 p.m. Friday and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Bonnie Richardson. TROY WORRELL Troy Worrell, 81, of Dayton, OH, died Oct. 3. 2001, at Heartland of Beavercreek. He is survived by his wife, Alta Worrell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Melvin Standley and Idiana and Donald Anthony; a sister, Maxine Caudill of Roanoke; 11 grandchidlren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. Funeal was Oct. 8 at the Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton, OH. Pastor Jerry Siler officiated. Burial was in Valley View Memory Gardens.
