    2. Galax Gazette Obits--October 17, 2001 JOSEPHINE PRIVETT BARKER Josephine Privett Barker, 98, of Galax and formerly of Independence, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at Waddell Nursing Home. She was born May 25, 1903 at Troutdale in the Fairwood Community, to Aerd and Mary Ellen Parks Parks. She was the widow of both her husbands, John Privett and Kim Bro Barker. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Amelda Privett of Galax; one daughter, Ethel Leonard of Independence, one sister, Irene Tomlinson Hodges of Fries; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces. A funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Fred E. Jennings, the Rev. Gene Brinkley and the Rev. Sam Holder officiated. RALPH C. HALL Ralph C. Hall, 51, of Fancy Gap, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at Nothern Hospital of Surry County. Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Pat) Hall of the home; his parents, Arba and Edna Hall of Fancy Gap; four brothers, Roger Hall, Worth Hall, Virgil Hall and Larry Hall; four sisters, Joyce Hall and Jean Hall, both of Fancy Gap and Linda Dalton and Ann Largen, both of Hillsville; and two granddaughters, Kandi Vaughn and Ashley Vaughn. A funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. a the Sky View Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Webb Sky View Cemetery. The Rev. NOLAN DEAN LINEBERRY Nolan Dean Lineberry, 58, of Galax, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at the home of his sister and brother-in-law in Fries. He was born in Carroll County on Aug. 6, 1951 to Gleeves and Beulah Lawson Lineberry. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Misti and Jamie Brewer of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Sheila Lineberry of Woodlawn; one granddaughter; three step-grandchildren; his parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lexie and Richard Andrews of Fries and Elma and Jackie Alley of Galax; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and counsins. A funeral was held Sunday in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Monta Vista Cemetery. Billy Burnette, Sammy Burnette and Russell Payne officiated. RUSSELL MEDLIN Russell Medlin, 73, of Hillsville, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mary Medlin of the home; seven children and spouses, Linda Freeman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Karen Spurier of Lexington, N.C., Danny and Angie Alexander, Sherry Medlin and Kristie Medlin, all of Hillsville, David and Susan Medlin of Thomasville, N.C., and Bruce and Nadine Medlin of Lake Side, Calif.; his mother, Bythia Shaw Haynes of Lexington, N.C.; a sister, Ora Mae Bailey of Lexington, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Sky View Baptist Church with burial in the Webb-Sky View Cemetery. The Rev. Riggins of Austinville; a half brother, Benjamin Harris Phillips of Christiansburg; a half sister, Misty Darlene Phillips of Richmond; five aunts, Judy Monroe, Denise Riggings, Reneva England, Bonita Burnette and Jean Edwards; and 10 uncles, Malcolm Odell Riggins, Rufus Roy Riggins, Terry Lee Riggings, Michael Riggings, Randell riggings, Theo Monk, Clifford Monk, Teddy Monk and Hobert Monk. A funeral was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsville with burial in the Bethany Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Dean officiated. GOLDIA ALPHIA TAYLOR Goldia Alphia Taylor, 89, of Kingsport, Tenn., and formerly of Galax died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at Sunbridge Health Care Center. She was born in Laurel Fork on May 17, 1912 to Floyd Richard and Judith Mae Quesinberry Sutphin. She was the widow of Bernard Preston Taylor. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Taylor of Kingsport, Tenn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three nieces and two cousins. A graveside service will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Felts Memorial Cemetery. Elder Ronnie Bowman will officiate.East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport is in charge of arrangements. ARCHIE E. WEBB Archie E. Webb, 68, of Hillsville, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Webb of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Fay Webb of Naples, Fla., and Dawn and Scott Quesenberry of Allisonia; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Denise Webb of Hillsville; a brother, John Webb of Hillsville; two sisters, Gladys Love and Elsie Cocheran, both of Hillsville; and two children. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the C.C. Webb Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathan Smith will officiate.Military rites will be performed at the graveside by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. RAY ANDERSON TESTERMAN Ray Anderson Testerman, 69, of Galax, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at his residence. He was born Feb. 22, 1932 at Independence in the Grubb’s Chapel Community to Lester and Dora Anderson Testerman. Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Testerman; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy R. and Patricia Testerman and Bobby C. Testerman, all of Galax; one granddaughter, Lori M. Landreth of Sparta, N.C.; one great-grandson, Nicholas Landeth of Sparta, N.C.; one sister, Katherine Mink of Galax; a special nephew, Edward Anderson of Galax; and several other nephews and nieces. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Felts Memorial Park. The Rev. Fred E. Jennings, the Rev. Garry Adams and the Eev. Bill Moss will officiate.
