    2. Juanita Harris Goad, 76 Juanita Harris Goad, 76, of Elkin, N.C., formerly of Carroll County, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Hospital, Elkin, N.C. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Brenwald of Elkin, N.C.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home with burial in the Branscome Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Sizemore will officiate. ======= George P. Burchett, 79, of Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jencie Jo Hall Burchett. He was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Kentucky. He was a retired U.S. Army captain having served in World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara W. Bramhall of Beltsville, Md.; two grandson, Jeff Bramhall and Michael J. Bramhall, both of Adelphia, Md.; a special friend, Carolyn Long of Independence. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Hall Cemetery, Volney, with the Rev. Douglas Halsey officiating.Military rites were conducted at graveside by the Grayson County VFW Post 7726. ===== Ila Faye Melton Jennings, 59 Ila Faye Melton Jennings, 59, of Galax, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. She was born Jan. 18, 1942, in Galax to Guy Morgan and Iva Lee Spivey Melton. Survivors include her husband, Thomas L. Jennings; two daughter, Debra Jennings Melton and Wendy Michelle Jennings, both of Galax; two sons, Carl Dean Jennings and Derrick Wayne Jennings, both of Hillsville; six grandchildren; her mother, Iva Lee Melton Anders of Galax; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bobby Burcham, Barbara and Ted Pedgett, Judy and Otis Boyles and Marietta and Raymond Russell, all of Galax, and Fonda and Larry LeClair of Oldtown, Maine, and Sharon and Mike Sizemore of Hillsville; a brother, Gary Carroll Melton of Fries; and a sister-in-law, Ola Melton of Fairlawn. A graveside service was held Sunday at Monta Vista Gardnes, Galax, with the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating. Lewis, 81 Dewey E. Lewis, 81, of Damascus, the Green Cove Community, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at his home. He was born June 22, 1919, in Ashe County, N.C., to Ambrose and Minnie Roten Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Lura Greer Lewis of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mattie and Kyle Blevins of Whitetop and Gladys Lewis of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Judy Lewis of Abingdon; a sister, Maudie Richardson of Abingdon; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral was held Tuesday at Green Cove Baptist Church, Damasuc, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jody Blevins officiated. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Barker Ray. He was born March 20, 1934, in Independence to David Parks and Idella Joines Ray. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Marjorie Ray of Stoneville, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Bill Pendergrass of Climax, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Martha Ray of Mountain City, Tenn.; one sister, Mae Barker of Independence; and five grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at Forest United Methodist Church, Elk Creek, with burial in the Forest Cemetery. The Revs. Bobby Lorton and Fred E.
