    2. Galax Gazette Obits--October 20, 2001 CHARLIE NEAL MOONEY Charlie Neal Mooney Jr., 84, of Woodlawn died Wendesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Mooney. He was born April 22, 1917, in Kegley, W.Va., to Charlie Mooney Sr., and Sally Ann Ayers Mooney. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Johnny Moore of Woodlawn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Rita Mooney of Peterstown, W.Va., and Curtis and Shirley Mooney of Galax; a sister, Sylvia Johnson of Princeton, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Patton Cemetery. The Rev. Eddie Bailey and Rawley Amburn will officiate. BEULAH BURNETT NESTER Beulah Burnett Nester, 85, of Dugspur, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. She was born June 24, 1916, in Floyd County to the Rev. James Lewis E. Burnett and Cora Lynch Burnett. She was the widow of Carlos Stuart Nester Survivors include two sons, Clinton S. Nester and Delmon "Pete" Nester, both of Dugspur; daughters and sons-in-law Helene Nester and Edward Grubb, Joyce N. and Irvin Rotenizer and Brenda N. Hynek, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., Nila N. and Richard Reynolds of Lexington, N.C., and Elsie N. and J.D. Turman of Hillsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cleston H. and Jennifer F. Nester of Dugspur and Bobby L. and Kathy G. Nester of Hillsville; two sisters-in-law, Alice Burnett of Collinsville, and Jesse Burnett of Wirtz; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many special friends. A funeral will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Reece Cemetery. Davis, 91, of Placerville, Calif., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at a health care facility in Placerville. She was the widow of George H. Davis. She was born May 8, 1910, in Herreld, S.D. Survivors include a sister, Rose H. Dent of California. A graveside service was held Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Morris officiating.Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements MARTHA GENEVA GARDNER Martha Geneva Gardner, 83, of Woodlawn, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Buford Gardner. She was born June 7, 1918, in Buchanan County to James Walter and Delilah Hensley Horne. Survivors include a daughter, Delilah Jean Howard of Galax; two sons, Buford "Leroy" Gardner and James Hicks Gardner, both of Woodlawn; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. Jay Fields officiated BARNEY BRADFORD HOLDER Sr Barney Bradford Holder Sr., 64, of Galax, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1937, in Mecklynburg County, N.C., to William P. and Edna Williams Holder. Survivors include his wife, Myrna Holder of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Babette and Clark Nuckolls of Galax; a son, Brad Holder of Galax; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Braunda Flowe of Davidson, N.C., and Benita and Don Miller of Lancaster, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Holder of Lake Norman, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Holder of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held today, Friday, at 2 p.m. at Galax Presbyterian Church with Drs. Tom Whartenby and Robert Dendy officiating.Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. LYDIA FROST LINEBERRY Lydia Frost Lineberry, 71, of Galax, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. She was the widow of Fred Curtis Lineberry Jr. She was born June 30, 1930, in Carroll County to John S. and Ida Mae Carico Frost. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail and J.C. Harrison and Deborah Lineberry, all of Galax; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwight and Linda Lineberry and Forrest Lineberry, all of Galax; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes and Howard Newman, and Katheryn and Mason Lawson, all of Galax, and Betty and Sid Roberts of Woodlawn; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John M. and Dorothy Frost and Wayne and Nancy Frost, all of Galax; one granddaughter, Jada Lineberry; one stepgranddaughter, Dawn Walker; one stepgreat-grandson, Logan Walker; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Hebron Cemetery. Marvin Williams and Carroll Lineberry officiated. LATTIE BOYER SMYTHERS Lattie Boyer Smythers, 88, of Wytheville, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Birdmont Health Center, Wytheville. She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in the Summerfield Community of Grayson County to Curtis W. and Sallie Daniel Boyer. Survivors include her husband, Gleason K. Smythers of Asbury Center, Wytheville; a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Charles M. Roberts of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Smythers of Pulaski and Anna Boyer and Abigail Boyer, both Summerfield Community; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Patty Green of Galax; and several cousins. A funeral was held Thursday at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Dublin, with the Rev. Donald E. Stansell officiating. Entombment followed the service.
