    2. GALAX GAZETTE Dorothy Lee Alley Hodge, 60, of Lexington, N.C., died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her home. She was born April 2, 1941, in Grayson County to Otto and Louzena Taylor Alley. She was the widow of Charlie Hodge. Survivors include two sons, R.J. Shumate of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff Shumate of Cape May, N.J.; two daughters, Betty Cleary and Glenda Cline, both of Lexington; three brothers, Burton Alley, Otto Alley Jr., and Jake Alley, all of Galax; three sisters, Thelma Hall, Susan Melton and Juanita Shumate, all of Galax; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home, Lexington, N.C., with burial in the Forest Hill Memorial Park. The Rev. Bobby Burcham will officiate. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, N.C. 27293-1941. ========= Carroll Gene Roberts, 61, of Galax, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1939, in Carroll County to Emmett Roberts and Dora Redd Roberts. Survivors include his wife, Diana Roberts of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Allen Rosenbaum of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Cindy Roberts of Galax; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hazel Waddell and Ovella and Harlon Rosenbaum, all of Galax, and Veda and Hawthorne Robinson of Woodlawn; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vera and James Talley of Galax; three grandchildren, Justin Rosenbaum, Allison Roberts and Jacob Roberts; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Sunday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Popes Knob Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Bartlett, Billy Redd and Roger Redd officiated. ========== Golda Lee Tolley, 91, of Elk Creek, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Walter BeCraft in Comers Rock. She was the widow of William E. Tolley. She was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Volney to Cleve and Alice Amanda Ayers Peak. Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, Harold Edward and Ruth Tolley of Winton, Calif., J.C. and Irene Tolley, Billy and Betty Tolley, all of Elk Creek, Bobby and Nancy Tolley of Lorton and Danny Lee Tolley of Fries; one sister and brother-in-law, Maude and Junior Winesett of Marion; 21 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church with burial in the Forest Cemetery. The Revs. Paul Atwood, Fred Jennings and Ted Bartlett will officiate.Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Creek Rescue Squad, P.O. He was born Jan. 14, 1955, in Galax to Robert K. and Lois Payne Gilmer. Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Sexton of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sylvia Waight of Galax; her father, Robert K. Gilmer of Abingdon; a sister, Carolyn Harrell of Woodlawn; a brother, Timothy Steppe of Galax; five grandchildren; a fiancee, Rhonda Gravley of Galax; a special friend, Shirley Gilmer of Galax; several nieces and nephews; a several great-nieces and –nephews; special family friends, Wally and Monteen Murphy and family, and David and Imogene Kennedy. A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Monta Vista Cemetery. Ralph Seal Jr., will officiate. ==========
