GALAX GAZETTE 18 Aug 2001 Opal Combs Branscome, 77 Opal Combs Branscome, 77, of Galax, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Carroll County to Lawrence and Emma Hanks Combs. Survivors include her husband, Coy Robert Branscome of Galax; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Slyvia Branscome of Yorktown and Barry and Ann Branscome of Galax; two grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Goodson, Ruby and Milo Cockerham, all of Galax, and Hilda and Jonathan Windle of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Gregory and Elder Edward Bowman will officiate. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ============ Mable Lee Kyle, 56 Mable Lee Kyle, 56, of Galax, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1944, in Prince Edward County to Jessie J. Kyle and Ozelle E. Johnson Kyle. Survivors include her mother, Ozelle E. Kyle of Galax; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Therman Brown, Lydia Campbell, Wilma and Allen Kyle and Belaine Kyle, all of Galax, Mae and Charles Wise and Phyllis and Elder Kennith Johnson, all of Wytheville; a brother, Wilbert "Jack" Kyle of Galax; an adopted brother, Frankie Robinson of Galax; and several nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral was held Thursday at River Hill Baptist Church with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. The Rev. Raymond Brown Jr., and Elder William Beamer officiated. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ============ Archie Dale Richardson, 82 Archie Dale Richardson, 82, of Galax, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 1, 1919, in Grayson County to James Frank and Mary Bell Bourne Richardson. Survivors include his wife, Nellie B. Richardson of Galax; a daughter and son-in-law, Deloris A. "Susie" and Barry L. Lyons of Galax; two grandsons and a spouse, Barry Lyons of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Monte E. and Leigh Ann Lyons of Galax; a great-grandson, Ethan C. Lyons; two brothers, Edward Earl Richardson of Galax and R.B. "Pete" Richardson of Roanoke; and two nieces and one nephew. A funeral was held Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn funeral Home with burial in the Monta Vista Cemetery today, Friday, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Randy Morris will officiate. ============ Polly Williams Sumner, 86 Polly Williams Sumner, 86, of Fries, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at her home. She was the widow of Henry Hiatt Sumner. She was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Carroll County to Frank Williams and Lydia Jones Williams. Survivors include two nieces, Betty Shaffner and Wanda Dowling, both of Fries; and several other nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Thursday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Shupe officiating.Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
