    2. Carroll News--Wednesday, August 29, 2001 Obituaries ======== JOSEPH R. DAVIS Joseph Robert Davis, 65, of Galax, died Aug. 24, 2001 in Hunter Holmes McGuire Virginia Medical Center, Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Elsie R. Davis; brothers, James F. Davis of Fries, Olin D. Davis of Roanoke, Raymond E. Davis of Fries. Funeral was Aug. 26 at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Camet Spivey and the Rev. Bill Linkous. Burial was in Monta Vista Cemetery. ===== GARLEN A. HALL Garlen Allen Hall, 93, of Galax, died Aug. 25, 2001. He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Dixie Hall of California, Garlen Lincoln and Ressie Hall of Galax; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Don Fox and the Rev. Camet Spivey. Burial will be in Monta Vista Cemetery. ====== OPAL B. HALL Mrs. Opal C. Branscomb Hall, 81, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born June 10, 1920, in Carroll County, VA to Sandy and Martha McCraw Combs. Mrs. Hall was employed with L. Roberts, Robbins and was a member of Oak Summit United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed life and serving other people. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Hall and her parents. Surviving are one son, Lionel Branscomb and wife Ramona of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Arlene Lowe of Hillsville, VA; three grandchildren, Patience Hering and husband John of Dallas, TX, Laura Cody and husband Matthew of Winston-Salem, NC, Lionel (Lee) Branscomb and wife Angela of Seattle, WA; seven great-grandchildren, Priscilla Barnes, Jacob Hering of Dallas, TX, Andrew, Caroline, Emily, Natalie Cody of Winston-Salem, NC and Hannah Branscomb of Seattle, Wa; and one very special niece, Vicki Richardson of Winston-Salem, NC. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m Aug. 27 at Oak Summit United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patrick Hamrick officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park. Hawks, 79, of Galax, died Aug. 25, 2001, in Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley C. and Patricia Hawks of Galax; sisters, Helen Wisenhunt and Trusty Bryant both of Galax; brother, Harvey Barker of Galax; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Funeral was Aug. 27 in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Kenny and Dewey Felts. Burial was in Blue Ridge Chapel Cemetery. ====== LINDA N. FLIPPIN Linda Nester Flippin, 55, of Fancy Gap, VA, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Flippin was preceded in death by her parents, Orlie Clayton and Belva Mae Vass Nester and a sister, Mary Coulson. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Flippin of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Tim Williams of Independence; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Angie Flippin of Independence; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joyce Nester of Pulaski; grandchildren, Cassidy Jo Williams, Lydia Marie Flippin and Isaac Scott Flippin; special friend, Frances Goad. KYLE Lola Mae Newman Kyle, 92, of Fancy Gap, died Aug. 26, 2001, in Meadow Brook Manor Nursing Home in Clemmons, NC. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Verlon Gray and Margaret Kyle of Winston-Salem, NC; daughters-in-law, Betty Jo Kyle of Fancy Gap, Francis Kyle ofWinston-Salem, NC; sister, Eathel Newman Hill of Hillsville; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. in Independence Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Harris Easter and the Rev. Layne Pennington. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery. ==== SARAH B. McCRAW Sarah Lelia Burcham McCraw, 93, of Galax, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, in Beverly Health Care-Blue Ridge, Galax, VA. Mrs. McCraw was preceded in death by her husband, W. Robert McCraw, parents, Dilver R. and Loretta Goad Burcham and a brother, Harvey Burcham. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Phyllis McCraw of Salem, Donnie and Carlene McCraw of Galax; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alene and Bob Nester of Galax, Ollie and Bernard Jones of Blacksburg; grandchildren and spouses, Robbie and Debbie McCraw, Tony and Penny McCraw, Doug and Cindy McCraw, Jeff and Miranda McCraw, Angela Easter, Laci Jones and Ryan Jones; great-grandchildren, Mandi, Drew, Emily, Eli, Will, Lucas and Lydia McCraw; brother-in-law and spouse, Roby and Myrtis McCraw; sisters-in-law, Gladys Hill and Violet Hall; Funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at 2 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. QUESINBERRY Mr. Bradley Dean Quesinberry, age 45, of 1486 Round Peak Church Rd., Mt. Airy, NC, husband of Mrs. Donna Kline Quesinberry, died at his home Monday, Aug. 20, 2001. Mr. Quesinberry was born Oct. 5, 1955 in Galax, VA to Verlie Louise Shelton Willard and the late Murphy Eugene Quesinberry. He was owner and operator of the M and B Trucking Company and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Donna K. Quesinberry of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Cristy Quesinberry of Cana, VA; two grandchildren, Shailyn Quesinberry and Dylan Quesinberry, both of Cana, VA; two step daughters, Kala Kline and Marla Crouise both of Galax, VA; his mother, Mrs. Verlie Willard of Mt. Airy, NC; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Freeda Tobler, Mt. Airy, NC, Joyce and Larry Davis, Hillsville, VA, Rhonda and Wade Leonard, Cana, VA and a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Robin Quesinberry, Mt. Airy, NC; 14 nephews and nieces, 15 great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Semones Family Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Neil Eidson, Rev. G. H. RICHARADSON Rev. Guy H. Richardson, 66, of Fancy Gap, died Aug. 24, 2001, in Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith Richardson; son and daughter-in-law, Guy Dewayne and Evelyn Richardson of Fancy Gap; mother, Ila Richardson of Galax; brothers, Virgil Richardson of Pilot Mountain, NC, Robert Glen Richardson of Fancy Gap; step daughter and spouse, Diane and Jeff Leath of Galax; step sons and spouses, James C. Smith Jr. and Patricia of Peach Tree City, GA, Glen and Carol Smith of Galax; one granddaughter. Funeral was Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. in Freedom Baptist Church, Fancy Gap, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Marion and the Rev. Wendell Horton. Burial was in the Blue Ridge Chapel Cemetery. ===== BLANCHE M. WILLIAMS Blanche McMellion Williams, 64, of Galax, died Aug. 24, 2001, in Lexington, NC. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Priscilla and Danny Sayers of Galax, Carol and Joel Lunday of Lexington, NC; sisters, Beulah Edwards of Mt. Airy, NC, Bertie Hawks of Winston-Salem, NC, Imogene Hodge and Joyce Samuel both of Forest City, NC, Mary Jones and Essie Mayes both of Cana; brother, Raymond McMellion of Cana; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Funeral was Aug. 27 at Mt. Pisgah Church of Christ with Marvin Williams and Lawrence Warden officiating. Burial was in the McKenzie Cemetery.
