    2. The story is somewhat documented in the book, "The Man Who Moved A Mountain." However, if the story is like the rest of the book, it is a bit suspect. Speaking as one who researched the Allen Tragedy, I would like to see someone research this event and tell the straight story. Like the Allen story, it is probably distorted over time and many retellings and interpretations. In my experience, even descendants of the parties involved only have one side of the story; that which was told to them by their families. This is a tragedy that was not talked about by the older citizens of Floyd or Carroll Co. No one knows the complete story, just what was told by folks who heard it from other folks. There are still descendants living in the area and elsewhere. I would hate to see it on a website with only hand me down stories and half truths. I don't think the "Shoot out" was investigated as was the Allen Tragedy and few court records exist. Out of respect for a very dear friend of mine, now deceased, I would like to follow his lead. Let it rest.
