    1. Re: [VACARROL] McDannel or McDaniel
    2. I respected John Perry as an historian above all others in Carroll. However, I'm not sure he was correct in assigning James to Thomas and Mary. Mary's marker in the Williams-Jenkins cemetery (her husband's there too) shows her birth date as 1776 which would have made her past 50 years of age when James was born in 1830. I think he was more likely a son of John and Mary (Hague) Edwards, but I have nothing to prove it. I also believe that his assignment of Elisha Edwards (b. abt 1829) to Thomas and Mary is questionable. We discussed it not long before he died and at that point, he was still unsure of the two. The Edwards are very difficult to research due to the number of them, intermarriages and the duplication of names. I'm sorry, I have nothing on Mary McDaniel. Hall/US-Corporate/3M/US) 05/03/2001 Subject: [VACARROL] McDannel or McDaniel 07:30 PM Mary Polly Williams b. 1832 in Hillsville, married James A. Edwards b. 1830 in Hillsville and I have been seriously searching for the parents of James A. EDWARDS and believe his father was Thomas EDWARDS married to Mary McDANNEL (McDaniel). There were a half dozen James Edwards in the area of Hillsville at the time and even J P Alderman was not absolutely clear about the parents of James A. Edwards. Elias Davis signed the surety bond for James' marriage in Dec 1849. I've been told that Thomas and Mary McDannel Edwards are buried at the Williams-Jenkins cemetary near Woodlawn. Does anyone know more about Mary McDaniel (McDannel) b. 1776-1867 who married Thomas Edwards in 1806? I would be thrilled to confirm James A.'s parentage. Thank you for helping out.
