(It doesn't give a maiden name label for the Sarah/Sally who has the mother of Hannah Dalton, Adeline Dalton, and many other daughters, but it lists her as the first Sarah in the Dalton index.) If I'm following this Wm Dalton thread correctly, I take it that the index page is labelled incorrectly, and that the [Branscom] label (and the link to the 1850 Harbert Branscome family) should go with the links for the 1860/1870/1880 readings for the William Dalton with 8 daughters and 3 sons, and the 1860 link that is labelled as Sarah Branscom should instead be labelled [Jennings], and go with the 1870 link to the T. M. Hull family: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vacarrol/census/carr_735.htm#h123 Is this correct? Here are the two 1850 listings where each Sarah is with her parents: 1850 census of Carroll Co., Va, p. 9, lists as family #60: Jennings, Thomas, 46; Elizabeth, 48; Lucinda, 19; Sarah, 18; Justin, 15; Churchwell M., 13; Mary, 10; James C., 9; John F., 4. 1850 census of Carroll Co., Va, p. 50, lists as family #348: Harbert, Branscome, 37, farmer; Nancy, 38; Sally, 16; Anna, 14; Franklin, 13; Selah, 11; Robert, 10; Isaac, 8; John, 7; Tilda, 5; Polly, 5; Lucy, 4; William L., 2; Edmond, 4/12; Tirey Goad, 23, waggoner; William Dalton, 23, laborer; George W. Becknell, 37, laborer. -------------- Here are the 1860/1870 readings for the Sarah who was Millard's mother: 1860 census of Carroll Co., Va, Hillsville P.O., p. 6, lists as family #30/30: Dalton, William, 33, farmer; Sarah, 29; Wm H., 8; Millard F., 6; Sanders N., 4; Julius A., 2; James J., 4/12; Timothy, 77. 1870 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, p. 113, lists as family #123/127: Hull, T. M., 26, farmer; Sarah, 34; John C., 3; Henderson T., 1; Jennings, W. H., 18; Millard F., 15; Alexander J., 14; James J., 10; Hull, E. A., 25. -------------- Here are the 1860-1880 readings for the Sarah who was Adeline's mother: 1860 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Hillsville P.O., p. 58, lists as family #377/380: Dalton, William, 30, miller; Sally, 31; Hannah, 10; Adeline, 8; Julia A., 6; Alverta, 4; Wm. (Judging by the 1880 census, three daughters Martha, Mary and Nancy have been collapsed into one. This listing is taken from the Carroll Co. VAGenWeb site; I have not checked the microfilm and don't know whether the error is in the transcription or the original.) 1880 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, p. 113, lists as family #26/27: Dalton, William, 52, farmer; Sarah, 45; Sarah, 19; Albert, 16; Martha, 13; Mary, 13; Nancy, 12; Asa R., 10; Roxie, 8; Patsie, 4; Rosa Allice, 2.
