    1. Re: [VACARROL] Liberty Hill, VA-Civil War
    2. Ms Craiger, I have not run across this name in my Carroll research. He is not reflected in the county death records, nor did I find him in the list of Civil War casualties from Carroll. I did not find his wife's name in the pension records of the county. I also checked the marriage records and did not find that any of their children married in the county. He is listed in the regimental rolls as having served in Company A and enlisting 2/29/1862. Sorry I can't help you with any information on Liberty Hill. best regards, Ron Hall "Lori Craiger" <uni62corn@hotm To: VACARROL-L@rootsweb.com ail.com> cc: (bcc: Ronald W. Hall/US-Corporate/3M/US) Subject: [VACARROL] Liberty Hill, VA-Civil War 03/18/2002 11:37 PM Hello, I am new to this list. I am searching for information on my husband's great-grandfather, Andrew Miller. He served in the Civil War with the 29th VA Infantry. His wife, Catharine, filled out an application for a pension as his widow in 1888. The reason I am posting to this list is that she stated he died at Liberty Hill, VA of Typhoid Fever. She failed to put the date though. I think Liberty Hill was/is in Carroll County. I was hoping someone on this list could tell me if it is and if there is any information about this Civil War regiment being there. Was there a battle at Liberty Hill? I don't know if Andrew was with his regiment when he died or not. I just know that I have no record of he and Catharine living there so I am assuming it was while he was in the war. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Carroll County, Virginia, 1908) Helen M. Kyle ( b.about 1869, Woodlawn Carroll County) was the daughter of Judge William Kyle and Cassandra Davis Kyle. William and Cassandra are buried as are many of their children in the Woodlawn Methodist Church Cemetery. William was born in Botetourt Co, son of James Kyle and HArriet McDonald. 3. I would like to know if anyone knows of, or has the "Hillsville Virginian" newspaper in hardcopy or microfilm for Nov 1891. I am looking for articles about the suicide death of my great grandfather Philip T. Beamer and other articles surrounding the controversy. He had been the Treasurer for Carroll County and had been accused of mishandling and/or embezzling money. I have two other newspaper articles, one from the "Wytheville Dispatch" and one from "The Times" Richmond paper. Both reference articles from the "Hillsville Virginian". The Library of VA has the newspaper on microfilm, but not the dates I need. The Antiquarian Society has a hardcopy of it, but much earlier than I need. Philip T. Beamer died 16 Nov 1891. 3. Hi! In your sources, do you see anything concerning Sarah BEDSAUL, b. around 1807, daughter of Daniel BEDSAUL and Catherine EDWARDS? She was placed by court order (Jan 26, 1808) in the home of the John GREEN family (along with her older brother, John Lowry b. 1802), when Daniel was arrested for stealing a horse. I am told that the GREEN family moved away from Grayson County, and I would like to verify what happened to Sarah. Also, if anyone has a clue, I would like to know WHY the John GREEN family would have been chosen to take in the BEDSAUL children? Were they related, somehow? Thanks! Also, would be interested if you could tell me how to go about two things; 1. find my father's police and court records in Carroll County 2. How to find out what his father left in trust for him. I know Dad was arrested and jailed sometime in 1931(when I was up to six months old) and got out sometime in late 1931 or early 1932. I don't know what he was jailed for. Also, I believe he was arrested when he was between 16 and 18 for shooting across a county road and perhaps more. A couple of family members say Dad didn't tell the whole story about this incident and claim that in addition to shooting across a county road, he shot the sheriff's horse with him on it and then went to Cosely Goad's, borrowed his horse and rode back to West Virginia where he was working. Per those relatives, he finally hired a lawyer and paid a substantial fine so as to come back to Carroll county to visit his sisters. ???????? Tom

    1. [VACARROL] Murders in Carroll
    2. Sometime ago, I started collecting data for a book on the numerous murders in Carroll with the intention of donating it to the Historical Society. I haven't yet put all the data into a book, but thought perhaps some on the list might enjoy reading about them. Also, hopefully some descendants out there might have further information on the events or people involved. I tried sending out one the other day, but it would not go because (as Freddie Spradlin wrote me back) the file was too large. Anyone interested in the killing of Andrew Collier by Floyd Sutphin (son of Isabelle) for stalking his sister can email me and I'll send it as an attachment to an email. This particular one happened in 1865 just after the end of the war when Floyd came home from the army. best regards, Ron Hall
