Seven Baptist churches in Caroline Co. went out of existence in 1941 when the Federal Government purchased several thousand acres of improved land for Fort A.P. Hill. "Three white Baptist churches - Bethesda founded in 1848, Liberty in 1811, and Zion in 1774 - and four Negro Baptist churches. . . The 3 white churches had a total membership between 700 and 800 and the 4 Negro churches about 400." These churches were a part of Hermon Association. This is from A History of Baptists in Virginia by Reuben E. Alley, c1973. Edith
