Hello all, Linda B. can tell us more about this but on an Alabama 42nd Infantry site I also maintain, one of the men wrote me one day to say that if I knew of anyone who had an ancestor who fought in the Civil War and whose grave needed a marker, the Federal Government is still paying to have one created for the veteran. Jason Lewis just wrote the email I include below and though he lives in Alabama, he has offered to answer questions or help anyone who needs more guidance on ordering a marker. I personally was unaware of such a government program til Jason wrote and asked me to post it on the Alabama site. :) Linda, maybe you could add more to this in regards to Caroline veterans? peg So here it is: "....Go to the county courthouse and then go to the Veteran Affairs Dept. Tell them that you want to order a Confederate marker. You need to have proof that these people served in the Confederate army, such as an official muster roll pension application or some kind of other proof. You need to have date of birth and death and place of burial. You would have go and get the marker from the place that it is send to and place it down yourself.I have mine sent to a funeral home ad they call me when it comes in.If I can help out anybody, please give them my e-mail address or telephone# 205-921-5180."
