I am researching the CARNEAL/CARNAL and other variations. The information I have so far says that Patrick CARNEAL/CARNAL (?) was born in Ireland in 1756, was married in VA in 1777 and died in VA in 1835. I have found a townland in Antrim Co. called Carneal but have been unable to find any other information about it. My direct ancestor is my great-grandfather Benjamin Walker CARNAL born May 3, 1882 in Tama, IA. He was the son of Archibald T. CARNAL, born August 23, 1836 in Caroline Co., VA, died December 27, 1889 in Tama, IA. He married Catherine A. HALL. One of Benjamin's brothers (Benjamin was the ninth child) was Nate CARNAL. Nate was Tama County supervisor. His son Edwin was Mayor of Tama. I have no idea where the family was between Virginia and Iowa. The story is that they were plantation owner in Virginia and fled during the Civil War. I would love to share information. Ardyth Long
