I am looking for information on the family of William Mason of Caroline County. On 2 February 1797, he married Sally Kelly. They had at least two daughters, though I know the name of only one. Sarah Mason was born c. 1801. She married James Dyson on 24 December 1821. The marriage bonds were guaranteed by Joseph R. Mason. Sarah and James had eight children: Charles T., Agnes A., James W., Richard F., Elizabeth J., Mary F., Maynard and Ellen Virginia. Both Sarah and James died about 1856, their estates being settled within a few weeks of one another. Sarah's father, William Mason, must have died prior to the date of her marriage and was probably dead before 1810 as neither the 1810 nor 1820 census list any males in the household of Sally Mason. Sarah was given in marriage by 'Guardian consent, Joel Mason.' I believe that Joel was William's brother. Joel married Jenny Kelly, presumably a sister of Sally, on 14 December 1798. Joel and Jenny probably had at least seven children, though I know the names of only three: 1) Joseph R. Mason, born c. 1800. Married Mary ----. Joseph died prior to 27 July 1860. Mary survived him. They had at least eight children: Joel (c. 1829); Virginia A. (c. 1831/32 m. 1 Richard F. Dyson, m. 2 James W. Dyson); Mary M. (c. May 1834/35); Winnie C. (c. 1836 m. John M. Whitlock 28 June 1853); Martha E. (July 1838 m. ---- Christian); Frances (c. 1841); Henrietta (c. 1846) and Joseph W. (c. 1849 m. Betty A. ----). 2) Eliza E. Mason (m. John Eubank 16 December 1822). No further information. 3) Jane K. Mason (m. Edmund West 10 December 1821). No further information. The estates of James Dyson and Sarah Mason Dyson were both administered by Warner M. Mason. He was probably a son of Joel and Jenny. Warner was born c. 1810. He may have married twice as his wife is named Mary A.F. Mason on the 1850 census and is called Sarah E. Mason in 1860. Warner had at least six children: Cornelia J. (c. 1835); Camillus A. (c. 1837, d. 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg/Antietam); Emuella C. (c. 1841); Francis M. (c. 1843, d. 1 November 1862 following his wounding at Sharpsburg/Antietam); Jane E. (c. 1843) and Mary A. (c. 1848). I have not found Warner on the 1870 census. I do not know if he was still living then or not. Richard Mason, b. c. 1799 and living at Central Point, Caroline County in 1860, may also have been a son of Joel and Jenny. His wife was named Nancy, and they had at least four children: Elizabeth (c. 1845); Robert A. (c. 1848); Genet (c. 1851) and Robert J. (c. 1853). William Mason and Joel Mason might have had another brother, Francis Mason, born c. 1774. He married Ellender Hammett. They settled in the Spartanburg District of South Caroline and had at least nine children: Sarah, Joel, Jesse, Mary, Elizabeth, James, Teareacy, Wilson and Lovina. Who were the parents of William Mason and Joel Mason? Was Francis their brother? What was the name of William's other daughter? What were the names of Joel's other children? I would be very grateful for any assistance which might shed some light on this line, or for information or assistance which may confirm or disprove any of my speculations about this line.
