Swann of Caroline County (source: Book titled Caroline County Court Records and Marriage Records year1787 - 1810)by William Lindsay Hopkins. CAROLINE WILLS AND DEEDS 1794-1863 p.64 Wills found in Other Sources Polly Newton....25 Mar 1839/14 Nov. 1842....Sister Nancy Newton. Witness: William Luck Sr., Jonathan Dickerson and George F. Swann. This book also has the following Swann's: Angela, Joshua, Judith, Samuel. The surname Swan has: Ann Jane, Eleanor, John, Jonathan, Joshua, Mary, Samuel, Wilson. Swan, Samuel, et al vs Ann Jane Swan and John Swan: Samuel Swan, Mary Swan, Joshua Swan and Wilson Swan state that their father, Jonathan Swan, left in his will dated 18, April 1786 to his wife, Eleanor Swan, and six children viz Mary Swan, Samuel Swan, John Swan, Joshua Swan, Wilson Swan and Eleanor Swan. Since JOnathan Swan's death, his daughter Eleanor Swan has died unmarried and intestate, his son JOhn Swan has died leaving two children viz Ann Jane Swan and John Swan, infants, and the widow, Eleanor Swan, has died leaving 127 acres of land and 17 slaves to be divided between Samuel, Mary, Joshua, and Wilson Swan and the two children of John Swan, decd. Feb. 1810 Division of the estate of Jonathan Swan lists Jonathan Swan, Wilson Swan, Samuel A. Swan,Polly Swan and Ann Swan, mother and guardian to Ann Jane Swan and John Swan orphans of John Swan, decd. Fanny Waters and Angela Swann appear as witnesses on Samuel Dishman is accused of beating Amey Pruett wife of Edmund Pruett. 2 March 1810 Under Chancery Suits/Caroline Co. Pleasant Burrus and Ann Burrus his wife, Joshua Swann and Judith Swann his wife, William H. Fulshire and Milly Fulshire his wife and Thomas Cheadle complain that the land and the slaves of Jacob Cheadle, decd., were divided among hs children and Polly Cheadle, an infant, has died under age 21 years, unmarried and intestate. They ask that her share be divided among them and Jacob Cheadle and Woodson Cheadle who are still infants. Dec. 1814 Joshua Swann and Judith Swann his wife, Thomas Cheadle, William H. Fulcher and Mildred Fulcher his wife state that Woodson Cheadle died within the last year intestate and without issue. He was possessed of a small tract of land. The above named plaintiffs along with William O. Burrus and Shelby McArthur Burrus, infant children of Pleasant Burrus (in right of their mother who was a sister to the said intestate who died before him) state that they are the nearest of kindred to the said intestate. The court orders tht the land be divided into four equal parts and distributed to Joshua Swan and his wife Judith, Thomas Cheadle, William H. Fulcher and Mildred hs wife and to William, Jacob and Shelby M.
