Va Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline?read=1541 Surname: Atkinson ------------------------- I received a copy of 'Marriages of Caroline County, Virginia, 1777-1853' by Therese Fisher yesterday. In it I discovered that my gg-grandfather's brother had married an Elizabeth Atkinson. [I had not previously known her maiden name.] In looking for information on her, I came across your query. The book lists several Atkinson marriages. I do not know whether you know of these already or not, nor do I know whether these people are all related: Charles Atkinson & Winnefred Goldsby. December 2, 1797 Charles Atkinson, Jr. & Mary Young. January 18, 1830 Iverson L. Atkinson & Lucy W. Thomas. April 21, 1832 John L. Atkinson & Emily Atkinson. August 11, 1834 [Bonds secured by Iverson L. Atkinson] John W. Atkinson & Ann E. Broaddus. November 2, 1846 or December 2, 1846 [Conflicting entries] Obadiah Atkinson & Margaret West. 1803 [Unless there were two Obadiahs, this date seems unlikely as Obadiah was only 18 on the 1850 census. He was a son of Charles, Jr.] William Atkinson & Nancy Stuart. April 15, 1824 Buckner Atkerson [presumably 'Atkinson'] & Jame F. Skinner. May 14, 1846 On the 1850 census, there is a Winston Atkinson, age 47, living near Charles, Jr. Winifred, age 74, is in the household of Winston, as is the Elizabeth, age 16, I was seeking. Though she is not listed in his household, I believe Elizabeth was a daughter of Charles and was, perhaps, "on loan" to assist her grandmother. Her stated age of sixteen fits neatly between two of Charles' other children on the census. Charles, Jr. secured the bonds for Elizabeth's marriage to James B. Eubank in 1851 and was also the person listed as reporting James' death to the county recorder in 1862. I am new to Atkinson research, but would be most interested in finding out more about them.
