Jones, residing in this county and one of the only two children born to Richard Saunders and Ann Puller Wharton, his wife. Richard Saunders was a Revolutionary soldier from Caroline Co. and received a Pension as such up to the time of his death(as Pension records will show) on the 19th day of June 1838, aged seventy-five years. My mother, the widow of Richard Saunders therefore entitled to a pension as such from the death of her husband (she never married again) did not begin to draw such pension at all until some time in the year 1856, where she drew it until her death on the 4th of December 1861, aged 61 years. In 1856 she drew back pension in the amount of $300. and was informed that the approiations for the Pension department had been exhausted until another approiation was made. She never received any of the back pension due her from 1838 to 1856 save and except what was included in the $300 she was paid in 1856.I am advised that I am entitled, as one of the heirs and personal representatives of my deceased mother to half of the amounts of pension so due her but never drawn - the other half being the right of my brother now in California John Wren Saunders, born December 23, 1836. I was born March 31st 1835. I therefore respectfully apply to the Commissioner of Pensions for my share of the ___pension as set forth and as I am advised the records of the Pension Bureau will show.
