    2. Some where in one of my allied lines I have Chews.I wonder if it was originally Chewings? With the difference in names it is all potato tomato etc. I've been to New Orleans area and they have some names down there of streets etc and even a huge river or swamp or something that is pronounced out no where near how it is spelled out. My Boldings came from Va. The forefather that I can get back to was Obediah as it is written now but in wills etc it was spelled out as Obdeah. I have a Thurston Oliver I found in Caroline Co and he is listed as Thruston Oliver. [email protected] wrote:Thanks, I should I actually live in San Joaquin County. My Chewnings came from the spelling of Chowning. Some of the research I have uncovered state that even as Chowning it was still pronounced Chewning. But sometimes even the Court Clerk changed the spelling. My Dora's came over from England where is was said it was Dore, in Maryland it was Dory/Dorey and on moving to Kentucky it was changed to Dora by some of the first clerks and they just stayed with it. My ancestors would cringe to know that we now just say Dora like the first name.
