My Herrell family, having been in America since probably 1650, I can no longer claim a nationality such as Irish, Scottish, German, English or other, because in over three hundred years of intermixing with other nationalities and Native Americans, I am Everything combined, as are most Americans whose first families arrived during colonial times. 1. St. Patricks Day was RE: [VACAROLI] Appalachian Storyteller, Irish?
    2. Teresa Elliott
    3. Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's day. Searching my database of 15,000 showed only ONE event that happened in Ireland-The death of my 10th great Grandfather, who escaped there from France to avoid religious persecution. But that didn't stop my daughter from dressing all in green and heading off to school to be Irish for the day. Not one drop of Irish blood in the child at all. <G> Teresa Ghee Elliott Rutherford Co., TN cemeteries: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rutherfordcemetery/ TMG sentences: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rutherfordcemetery/TMG.html Organized genealogy [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: G. 1. Who is Really of Irish Descent?
    2. G. Lee Hearl
    3. I had a ggreat uncle, Simon Herrell, who was born in 1825, very likely in Burke co., NC, who told people he was From Ireland! I wonder how many old stories like this have been passed down through families as absolute Truth and passed on to other researchers of today. The first thing I did when I got interested in researching the Harrell, Herrell, Harrold etc. families was read everything I could find concering the origin of the name. In my case, I found Harrald as a name used in Norway and Denmark when people had only one name and were referred to by some physical characteristic or a deed they had done. When I learned that the most notorious Vikings were Harralds or their relatives, it became very interesting! They ranged from fierce warriors to Kings of Norway, Denmark, England, Scotland and Ireland, one was even a Saint, Saint Olaf. I found that Fairhair Harald lived to be about 80 years old, dying in 935 AD, the average age of most of the Harrells etc. I have found in America. Makes me want to make a DNA comparison to the "old folks"! So you see why I may be at least part Irish today! G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.
