Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline/1858 Surname: Coleman ------------------------- According to the book by Wingfield "A History of Caroline County, Virginia","John Coleman, first son of Sir James Coleman of Braxton, Mango, Essex county, England, settled in Fairfax county, Va., in 1640, and married a Miss Hawes of King William county, Va." He had five children, one of which was Robert Coleman who married Elizabeth Lindsay and they had seven children, one of which was John Coleman III who married Eunice Hawes, b 1725, died 1807. They had six children one of which was Hawes Coleman, Jr. who maried Anne Harris and they had four children. The book was published in 1924 and takes the family up to that point.
