Robert Coleman I was the emigrant ancestor of this particular Coleman line. The Goodwins and the Colemans intermarried quite extensively. The below reference is from my web page; the information comes from Sherry Nichols' book. Samuel COLEMAN , Capt. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- << According to the book by Wingfield "A History of Caroline County, Virginia","John Coleman, first son of Sir James Coleman of Braxton, Mango, Essex county, England, settled in Fairfax county, Va., in 1640, and married a Miss Hawes of King William county, Va." He had five children, one of which was Robert Coleman who married Elizabeth Lindsay and they had seven children, one of which was John Coleman III who married Eunice Hawes, b 1725, died 1807. They had six children one of which was Hawes Coleman, Jr. who maried Anne Harris and they had four children.
