Hi, Folks! I hope I can offer something about the Carneal family queries. The dates and places given for Patrick Carnal match those in the DAR Register of Patriots for him, yet the patriot who matches the service record and pension files of that Patrick Carnal was not born in Ireland but in Caroline County in 1756, where he also married, and then died 1845. It is this Patrick Carnal from whom a number of women have made their claim to membership. I have researched several DAR applications to verify this information. The original information was simply not born out by his service and pension records, a copy of which I obtained from the National Archives. His pension record is S8156 and can be ordered from them using Form 80. DAR Application Files can be ordered from the DAR Library for only $5.00. It should be remembered that the first DAR applications were made mostly by stating what people thought were the facts according to family information. Data was not originally required. Later applications--and certainly quite strictly today--required verified data sources. Patrick's ancestors did come from Ireland but he was (as he proudly states in his pension application) Caroline, Va born and bred. He was still alive in the 1840 Census when he stated he was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. What is the name of Patrick's child who is your ancestor? We must be cousins! This is what I have for Robert F. Carneal(b.1819) and Lucy Tignor(b.1817): They were married in Caroline County, 11 Mar 1840. Her folks were Robert and Martha Tignor. Their children included: John C. Carneal b. 1841 Wilton K.P. Carneal b.1843 md Bettie C. Gouldman Columbia Hester (1845-1917) md Benjamin Franklin Mills (1841-1899) French Carneal b. 1851 Emma G. Carneal b. 1854 md Thomas W. Rouse Eliza A. Carneal b. 1854 md ______ Parr Joe B. Carneal b. 1859 I have not documented Robert's parents as yet, but I hope this helps some. Regards, Carol May Mesa, Arizona
