James CHANDLER signed the marriage bond for Richard MASON and Nancy CHANDLER, 25 Feb 1824 in Caroline County Virginia. The same date, James CHANDLER took out a marriage bond for himself to marry Malinda BELL. I believe they lived in the Bowling Green district until James and Malinda moved their family to Ross County OH around 1844; Richard and Nancy MASON remained in Caroline County. According to "People, Postoffices, and Communities in Caroline County, Virginia 1727-1969" Compiled by The Rev. Ralph Emmett Fall in 1989 in McDonough, Georgia, a community called Passing aka Eaglenest was located in the Bowling Green District at the intersection of Rts 665 and 625 at the eastern edge of Ft. A.P. Hill near the Essex County Line. He notes that what was known as MASON's place was originally erected around 1800 as a log cabin and later remodeled. The original owner was CHANDLER, and at his death it went to his daughter who married Richard MASON. The place stayed in the MASON family until it was purchased in 1901 by J.W. Sylva, who was the owner in 1937. In the same compilation, Mr. Fall identifies James CHANDLER as paying taxes in 1838 in the community of Passing. If anyone knows anything about the CHANDLER-MASON property mentioned in this compilation; the relationship of James and Nancy CHANDLER; the parents of James and Nancy CHANDLER; or can provide any other information about these families and this location, please let me know.
