    3. I use the Family Search website www.familysearch.org to see what records are available for a certain area and time period and then make my to do list from that. You might want to do most of the leg work before you get there. Also when searching for African Americans, don't forget that deed indexes will mention the owner and purchaser, not the slave, so it helps if you know who owned your relatives as well.
