Hi Kathy: i noticed in your message that you are researching the Broaddus, Campbell and Chenault Families of Caroline Co., VA. You may or may not be aware of the following but I will relate this information to you in hopes that it will help you. 1. In the early 1960s the County Clerk for Caroline Co., VA. was Thomas Elliott Campbell. He has written a book titled something like "History of Caroline County, VA". Thomas is the son of Mannasseh Campbell and Emily Allen. 2. The current Clerk of Caroline County, VA is Ray S. Campbell. I do not know the relationship between him and the former County Clerk, Thomas Campbell. Ithink that he is either the son or grandson because they both descend from the same Thomas Bell of Caroline Co., VA. 3. My great great grandfather was orphaned in Caroline Co. VA in 1815 and he chose as his guardians, Thomas Bell and Mordecai Broaddus. It seems that Mordecai Broaddus who was a minister and ran an orphanage in Caroline Co., VA. He was closely associated with and lived just across the street from Thomas Bell. 4. The Bells and the Campbells intermarried as well as the Bells and the Broaddus. 5. My beloved wife is the grandaughter of Maggie Eugenia Chenault from Caroline Co., VA. In my research of her ancestry I found that most all of the Chenault family descended from Estienne du Chenau born in France about 1675. He was a French Huguenot (Protestants) who married Mary Elizabeth howlett about 1700. He immigrated to America and landed in Yorktown, VA on March 5, 1701.This family is well documented in a book titled: "Descendants of Estienne Chenau" by Carlton Bl Rogers, Jr. By the Chenault Association it is called the Red Book and a new one is currently being wirtten and should be published sometime this year.
