Eldred, Unfortunaely, I do not know who the parents of John GAYLE born circa 1749 were. I only have two children for John GAYLE & Joanna WALDEN but I know they had more. I have John born ca. 1778 & my ancestor William born ca. 1770. I would appreciate any info you have on other children for them. William GAYLE born ca. 1770 married on 10 Nov 1797 to Lucy DILLARD born ca. 1770. I have one child, my ancestor, John M. GAYLE born ca. 1795. John M. GAYLE married on 20 Dec 1823 to Catherine Carolyn SEARLS born bet. 1804-1810. I have three children for them my ancestor Lewis Minor GAYLE b. ca. 1827 in Caroline, VA, George W. GAYLE born ca. 1828, & Angelina J. GAYLE b. abt. 1831 in Caroline, VA. Lewis Minor GAYLE married on 03 Nov 1847 to Frances A. BEAZLEY b. ca. 1822 in Caroline, VA. I have ten children for them: William E. ca. 1846, my ancestor Mary Lewis GAYLE b. Dec 1848, Virginia f. 1850, Stacy Burr 1851, Ella 1854, John Thomas Jan 1856, Frank 1857, Emma 15 Nov 1860, Lewis Minor Jan 1864, & Sally 1875. Mary Lewis GAYLE was my grt. grt. grandmother born Dec 1848 in Caroline, VA. She married on 20 Dec 1869 in Hanover, VA to Robert Lewis ATKINSON b. ca. 1842 in Hanover. Mary & Robert had nine children. Mary became a widow in 1883. About 1888 Mary married for a second time to William E. TYREE. Mary died abt. 1918 in Henrico County, VA at the age of 70. I descend through Mary's son Oscar Bruce ATKINSON born 25 Oct 1873 in Hanover, VA. This is the earliest census I could find for our ancestor: 1810 Caroline, VA Roll: 67; Page: 34; Image: 37.00. John GAYLE 1 Male Under 10 1 Male 16 through 25 1 Male 45 and Over 3 Females Under 10 2 Females 10 through 15 1 Female 26 through 44 All other Free persons 15 The earliest record I am able to find regarding GAYLE'S in Caroline County is the 1799 PersonalB Tax Lists which list a John and a William GAYLE. William I assume would be John's brother or father.
