I actually looked further into it..and Mr. Winkler from I believe a Tennessee tribe emailed me and told me to get a book called "Pocahanta's People" by Helen Rountree. So I did...but from what it told me in the book that all Indians were remarked as everything other then White or Indian...The names are pretty horrible to me...but that was the status back then...I have family pictured in the book like Captain Nelson..which I believe is Otho Nelson's son. They never stated that they were melungeon..but the fought in 1930 to have our status changed to indian...So on the 1930 Census under R.P. Nelson and Vivian Nelson...we are crossed out as "m" and written in as Mixed Blood then Rappahannock Tribe..Sorry I go in such detail...its so interesting to me where my history has been and really need some help figuring out exactly what we are...or were. None of the family would admitt to being Melungeon. If you look up Chief Captain Nelson of the Rappahannock Tribe in Virginia..there ar! e alot of links and one is about Melungeon. That my help your interest.. Are you anyway related to the Nelsons in Caroline County? Thanks again Jenn
Does anyone have a complete list of resourses from Caroline Co. VA the part taken from King William Ct. VA. other than the 1704 Quit Rents and the Chronicles of The Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, and the Virginia Roads files, that happens to be online to search and view. Gail
