Oh, this is one of those stories handed down from generations and there were so many acts of bravery in the building of our nation that this is insignificant except to his descendants. The sad thing is that one of the brothers died that day and later another died of smallpox during the war - there were 9 brothers in this family and all served! There were three captains, two lieutenants and the rest were privates - all brave men. So many of the feats of heroism can never be documented - it is up to us to keep their legacy alive! If other stuff can get changed why not his. Can you prove your story of him hiding in the woods and such. If so I would give it a try. I mean he risked his life side by side with his brothers, he did later join a unit so I don't see why it would be such a terrible thing to make a correction. I mean I think our founding fathers and earlier ancestors deserve the very best after what all they did to make this country the place we call home today! If it were not for them we would be in a real pickle! That was sort of what I meant for his decendants sake. I mean once they are all gone who will ever even know. Or are they doing research on their line also. Now that is one way we can all help make sure that future people know about these brave soles! Well eventually I plan to put all the information I have gathered into softcover book form for my family - not for the public in general - not for profit but just to make sure all the minute details are known! I may even scan the documents I have accumulated - and that alone will take years! With those, the story almost tells itself.
