Perhaps "Diane S", the very reason individual names were not listed in the Federal Censuses before 1850 was due to the fact that people were attempting to protect their privacy, something that we in this generation would be wise to emulate. I think it's more likely that the heads of households (usually male) were thought to be the only persons of enough consequence to name.
