Thank you for sharing that. Were they selling "Elim"? How many acres or is there information in the deed? Did you order it from the Clerk of Caroline County? COULD the 2nd mentioned "John Jones with heirs" be Jonathan Jones? There was a (1) Charles W. Jones and a (2) Charles Woolfolk Jones (who also used Charles W. Jones). Do you suppose they got together and thought what fun it would be to confuse us later generations?? <G> (1) Charles W. Jones, son of John and Sarah Phillips Jones, m Mildred Yates. Charles W. is the grandson of Edmund Jones. His father, John Jones was born about 1793, based on his guardian records & died in 1817 with a will. John was the son of Edmund Jones who died in the summer of 1801. I have no idea who Miss Frances Walden was, but she is also mentioned in the will of father, Edmund Jones. Edmund's will mentioned Amelia (who m Thornton Seal) and daughter Patty (the Martha of John's will - Martha "Patty" m1, George Herndon & 2nd Charles Bullard of Spotsylvania) Sarah Phillips was alive in 1817 but dec'd in 1823, from the estate records of her father, Charles Phillips. In those same estate records Charles W. Jones, was stated to be the ONLY child of his parents. (2) Charles Woolfolk Jones, son of Jonathan & Millicent Coleman, m Susanna F. Cole Jonathan died before 1820 & left a widow Millicent (nee Coleman), their son Charles Woolfolk Jones, born about 1810, The 1810 census indicates that Jonathan had a number of children, which indicates the Charles W of the 1823 deed fits the Charles Woolfolk Jones, the son of Jonathan and Millicent.
